Female blogger posts a request for a sperm donor. Unsurprisingly, random men queue up to offer their genetic material. Many also offer ethical judgements.

And here I thought we only got this sort of thing on AskMeFi.

Someone I've never heard of wants to have a baby and announces it on their blog. BFD.

That said, the "ethical judgements" link is pretty eloquent in a way I didn't expect.

It's interesting that she feels her biological clock ticking so strongly that she's given up on finding a partner with whom to have a child at age 26. (And at age 25 myself, I wonder if I'm missing something when I figure I still have time for life to play out.)

Isn't this service already provided by match.com and eHarmony.com? If not, surely they're missing a market here.

She's hot, and this is a stunt.

A baby is not a generic plant you grow in a pot positioned nicely on your window sill. It is a complex and eternal mixing of you and another. Whomever you entangle with will continue through spacetime as a being deeply interwoven with you. Not only does this affect your form within the child, but by forking into another you will no longer be the same independent signature you are today.

Eloquent rubbish, badly written.

"Forking into another you?"

A child is an independent human being - not a "fork" of the code.

"No longer be the same independent signature you are today?"

Not sure what is meant here. Taken literally, this would be cloning. Interpreted in the context of having children, this would apply to all parents.

"Whomever you entangle... blah, blah, blah."

A sperm doner is not "entangled" in your life anymore than the postman is. A biological parent is not the same thing as a real parent.

One could question this broad's motives and methods, but there's nothing wrong with going the sperm donor route.

I condemn you for that statement. And I condemn your mother. And the test tube your father contributed to.

You forgot the horse I rode in on.

p.s. Digg and Reddit both have really lame, shitty predictable threads on this subject. I think we can crush them with the sheer weight of our sarcasm.

Dugg down for not being relevant to the MeFi community. But I will upmod your sarcasm.

So nothing to do with the best of the web then?

That would depend on whether or not you were one of the anxious potential donors.

I'm not sure why so many are so quick to offer themselves up as donors. How odd. Are there really a bunch of men just waiting for the opportunity to donate sperm via the Internet? Did I miss something, a cool fad perhaps? Or are the blog comments from a bunch of 15 year olds 30 year olds who have seen the Big Lebowski one too many times?

Hmmmm. I have to say that I'm suspicious. This entity has only been blogging since June, and has only a handful of posts - most about online dating, one kind of boring "green" post, one where she talks about making out with another girl, and one silly one about carrying around cyanide.

I don't know. Oh, ho hum... I just popped up from out of nowhere to say, o hey here's a bunch of stats-type stuff on online dating, and oh ya I totally had some hot girl-on-girl action, but I still like penises... um what else? Oh the cyanide thing... and here's a picture of me, how about donating some sperm?

I'm thinking... No. This seems like, what - maybe a group of people putting together an online persona for reasons of their own? Maybe she's for real, but one would be pretty naive not to doubt this.

At least that's better than a sperm donner, which eats the other sperm.

Sperm Donner party! Just in time for Halloween!

But seriously folks, I agree with those who have speculated this is a hoax. She's working on a JD but doesn't appreciate the legal problems her proposal entails? She's a biophysicist but doesn't appreciate the practical problems (assuming she isn't actually going to shtup a stranger -- although the fact that she includes a hot pic and omits a discussion of her proposed method of impregnation makes me think that she's trying to appeal to guys who fantasize that she is offering to shtup a stranger)? She expects to get this all taken care of in two weeks??? It just doesn't seem likely to me.

And what if the other partygoers get impatient waiting for their snack? Anyone going to a "sperm donner party" is just asking to be castrated by gnashing teeth.

Even a sperm donner is better than a sperm dinner, which you can find many online videos of people having..

She's hot, and this is a stunt.

She certainly is pretty hot, but may she has some annoying personality defect that just makes her unbearable.

But anyway, if you were a hot woman interested in having a kid without all the trouble of dating, this seems like a really efficient way to do it.

(but yeah, you're probably right)

Because someone who claims to walk around with a lethal dose of cyanide in their pocket is well suited to be a mother of a newborn child. As for being a law student and knowing the legal ramifications, I've just got to ask, what law student wants additional responsibilities? She's either a prodigy or an absolute idiot.

The whole thing smells to me like a joke. It reads sort of like a dating ad crossed with a character in an Ayn Rand book or something, more than a serious search for a sperm donor. But she (assuming she is real, not a fake identity) will get thousands of replies, and either get a lot of laughs out of it, or maybe even find a boyfriend. Stranger things have happened.
