I'm sure you're all aware of the Bush fires raging in Australia for the past couple of days. The toll of death has exceeded 131 and arsonists have said to be the blame for the fire. Australia is also undergoing it's worst heatwave for the past couple of years which are only fanning the flames. Also, because of the death's caused, it's now said to be the worst Bush fire since Ash Wednesday, or Black Friday.

Any reason this couldn't have been put in the existing thread on the subject?

So now we're blaming Bush for fires in Australia?

It must be all that global cooling that people who find snow on their doorstep keep telling us about.

I haven't kept up on the topic, but isn't the issue the longstanding lack of rainfall in the Murray-Darling area, with these bushfires symptomatic of regular droughts?

Anyway, I feel desperately sorry for the people affected. From the sounds of it, the situation is quite unlike anything seen before, with a fire moving 50 miles in something like half an hour and catching a lot of people unawares.
