FreaXXX. What happens when you combine screamo + crunk? The next big band for tweens, Brokencyde. Of course, not everybody is a fan.

Do Lemmy and Dr. Dre fight over who gets to beat the shit out of them first?

Always bet on Lemmy.

You know, with a few quick and easy tanning sessions in New Jersey, I could see them being the next big thing.

I don't get it, but maybe it will lead to something interesting.

IMO, most great bands take the best of what other bands have done and make something new out of it... these guys did exactly the opposite. But at least they did SOMETHING, I guess.

Of course, not everybody is a fan.

That's for sure. For example, metafilter pretty much universally hated these guys as early as three months ago. We're so ahead of the curve.

I can't quite believe that two different MeFites decided to post about these guys but this is a double.

Confession time: Potomac Avenue told me about this at a meetup and I was all "you should totally post this!" What's even worse, I kinda enjoyed it because of its transcendental badness... still misogynist spew though.

Oh man! My "this is a double" comment is itself a double! How ironic.

I'm kind of glad music like this exists, because it reminds me that even in a field of pure subjectivity, material can exist that is OBJECTIVELY AWFUL.

No - no words. No words to describe it.

That is not screamo. Not at all.

With a description like "screamo + crunk" it HAS to be good.

I have seen the first video before, found it incredibly interesting, and have been trying to decipher it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure it out on my own. Could someone explain help the musical and cultural context to me?

For example, starting at 2:00, we see a juxtaposition of sexy, sexualized, and sexually-available but intently disinterested female backup dancers with what appears to be some sort of frustrated, misogynistic aggression. It seems very purposefully constructed, so it's hard for me to believe this is accidental. If it's just aesthetic, I can't figure out what they're borrowing from: even misogynistic hip-hop music does not seem to approach this as an issue of frustration and a reaction framed against disinterest. I have also tried to place it in the context of all the American sub-cultures I am familiar with, but I can't really come up with anything consistent.

If this is really destined for great popularity, I think it's very purposeful to figure out what it all means. Namely, what is the video trying to convey? Who is it trying to appeal to? And what does it tell us about the cultural context and cultural forces at work?
