E-mails from an Asshole. NSFW, obviously.

Not an actual asshole, just a guy who likes to screw with people:

"This is a collection of e-mails I have sent to people who post classified ads. My goal is to mess with them, confuse them, and/or piss them off. These are the ones that succeeded."

Delete away then.

Jim don't sell it to her. She'll probably pick up a random dude and crash the jeep while she's sucking his dick.

I so miss living in Arkansas at times.

I only suggest that when she is doing bullet quotes that she try not to add so much of a punchline at the end. She has some beginners that I was totally taken for but when she feels she has to draw out an ending it becomes difficult to understand why she let this happen.

You sure?

Unless someone has managed to train his sphincter to use a keyboard, yeah, I'm sure.

Cortex's deletion reasoning still applies:

This post was deleted for the following reason: This seems to be landing more on the "this guy is an asshole" side of the line than the "this shit is funny" side. -- cortex

this is very mean behaviour. it's just the same as forum trolling. very mean spirited and reprehensible. not much different from pulling someone's seat out from under them as they sit down or some other spiteful, injurious prank.

There was this guy, that taught his asshole to e-mail.

Not an actual asshole, just a guy who likes to screw with people:

Well, because an actual asshole would be term that refers to the anus, whereas the more metaphorical "asshole" could refer to someone the speaker does not like or whose behavior is hurtful, self-centered, or particularly abrasive. .

The semantics of "asshole" are variegated and multiformed, and it's important that we explore this topic here. If I make a particularly snarky comment, am I being an asshole? What if my comment was particularly witty or insighful? Shouldn't my comment be applauded nonetheless, despite its overall assholeness?

More generally, why is it appropriate for me to associate my comments with a particular body part? After all, my interaction is usually transmitted through my fingers, typing away at some web-based interface. Shouldn't my shame be directed at the amount of attention I'm giving the finger?

Dear MetaFilter,

I have a post that is not only old and tired, but distasteful, but you can have it for only $6,000 and your first born son's soul.

Thanks,

Asshole

I do like the idea of cheerleaders chanting A-S-S-H-O-L-E.

All my internet searches for this have been NSFWAWDYTIWB (Not Safe For Work And Why Did You Think It Would Be?)

Some of that was uproariously funny. But the ones that were utter failures make me say: delete away.

This is actually my web site, I'm kind of surprised to see it here on
the blue. I actually started this project (it is part of my PhD thesis
on online social interaction) to illustrate the counterintuitively
high level of tolerance, compassion and understanding that exists in
most places on the internet (even in anonymous or semi-anonymous
situations). Part of my interest came from a number of studies that
purported to show a decrease in civility and compassion in situations
where communication is depersonalized, but seemed flawed in their
methodology. The fact that these studies (as well as purely anecdotal
or conjectural evidence of this purported phenomenon) have gained such
widespread use in the media also made this of particular interest to
me.

The key result of my study, which as you can see from the comments
above, is often grossly misunderstood. The goal of my study was not to
highlight the eventual breakdown of civility of the test participant,
but rather to showcase their high level of trust and compassion, even
when presented with a difficult interaction in an online context. The
data on my entire test set, which includes interactions with several
hundred individuals over the past 22 months, overwhelmingly supports
my initial hypothesis that civility and cooperation are highly
consistent attributes of human interaction, even in an online
situation.

Anyhow, I hope this clears things up a bit. I still have a lot of data
analysis to do, but I'm hoping to finish my thesis by next spring. If
you have any questions about my work, I'd be happy to try to answer
them!

Given that the email threads on the site in question, snofoam, are gathered data, what is the point of the site's FAQ.

It seems like you're (still) trolling for lolz even there. Why not go for transparency and some version of what you explain in this very thread?

Actually this is MY website!

It was initiated years ago when I found out that nobody on the internet knew who I was, or knew I was a 5'5" skinny geek, and, for certain, didn't know what an asshole I was.

Years of being intimidated, beat up, threatened, wedgied, swirlied, thrown in outhouses, and locked in gym lockers were about to be offset by some serious fucking with people.

As you can see, I really make a point of picking on folks that even I might have been able to beat up in real life, but, like I always say, "why take the chance with a knife when you've got a sniper rifle", the internet seemed safer.

At this point I been able to provoke 45,687 people into calling me an asshole (only the best are posted on the site), confirming what I've always known and wasting the time of all 45,687 of them who probably had better things to do.

My next project is slated to be based on gathering road-kill from the side of the highway and responding to "I lost my puppy/kitty/bunny/raccoon/'possum/baby deer" ads and enticing folks to come to my house to get their pet. I'll be posting the photos of their response for your consideration and enjoyment.

If this is part of your PhD thesis, what did your IRB think of your study design?

If you people knew how hard it was for me to write all those emails using a mouth-stick, because I have no arms or legs, you wouldn't be so harsh.

What I'm saying is: Asshole-ish emails in response to scams, spam, and ripoffs: funny! Asshole-ish emails to regular innocent people: not.

Now excuse me while I replace the batteries in my respirator using my tongue.
