Splice Today is an online news and pop-culture magazine, started by Russ Smith, former founder of the Baltimore City Paper and the New York Press, and frequent Gawker punch-line. While they have solid movie reviews and some occasionally good political writing, they're music section stands out: covering upcoming artists and producing original compilations, like The Old Lonesome Sound -- 20 indie bands covering traditional folk songs. Russ Smith's writing is still, uh... let's say "controversial."
