Disney Princesses is a $3 billion business. But what lessons do we learn from Disney princesses? Princes?

I find it hilarious that your second link on the problems with Disney princesses is a Good Morning America story, GMA of course being an ABC News show, with ABC News being a wholly owned subsidiary of Disney-ABC Television Group, owned by, you guessed it, Disney. So which is more evil? Princesses or media consolidation?

I'd quibble on the "charming" - some of those guys barely get dialogue, they just turn up and marriage happens.
Not that kids notice. It's about dresses. And shoes.

I'm not sure this is an issue. It's equating princesses with role models, when princesses are a subset of role models.
It's kind of like making a criticism that all the movie and TV motorcycle-rebels fail to show that you can grow up to be a responsible square. A princess by definition is given her station by birth, not personal merit. Blaming Disney for this, or suggesting it's a cliche, seems... odd?
Furthermore, Disney's upcoming princess movie (the Princess and the Frog) is about a hard-working princess (a waitress and aspiring chef).
In fact, I suspect this whole "controversy" is manufactured, or at least encouraged, as promotion for Disney's new princess movie precisely because they're breaking this mold.

I grew up on fairytales and Disney movies. Ate that stuff up. And yet here I am, a productive member of society with an MFA, a well-paying job, my own theatre company and even a little self-esteem. Huh. Weird.

I wouldn't mind talking about Disney princesses again, but aside from the ABC links, this post is just two images and a blog post which contains those two images. That older post, which is still open, had a little more meat on it.
