Washington Post Epic Fail: "A Nov. 26 article in the District edition of Local Living incorrectly said a Public Enemy song declared 9/11 a joke. The song refers to 911, the emergency phone number."

Original article here.

The original article link states it is from March 10, 2006, not November 26. The original article link clearly states that the song refers to 911, not 9/11. So the Washington Post got it right 3 years ago, assuming it got it wrong on Nov. 26.

Apart from that, I'm not sure why this merits a FPP.

Original article here.

The article has now been amended (though the error is still there):
I mean, this is the guy who called 911 a joke (Note: "911 is a Joke" is a Public Enemy song written in the early '90s and has nothing to do with 9/11/2001) and asked a generation to "Fight the Power."

I've come to expect as much from Local Living incorrectly.

The original article link clearly states that the song refers to 911, not 9/11.

The part in parentheses was apparently added after they made the correction, hence the parenthetical beginning with "Note: ..." Otherwise, the correction would make no sense.

So you're suggesting that the Washington Post corrected an article from over 3 years ago, did not note that it had made a correction to the article at the end of it as per usual when issuing a correction, and incorrectly dated the reference in the correction as November 26 instead of March 10?

Wait, wait, you mean it's NOT the attack on the World Trade Center which killed thousands and provided a pretext for a disastrous attack on Iraq which killed thousands more that wears the late crown?

Actually this is the original article where the error was made. But I do not understand why any of this is particularly interesting.

Woops, never mind. I assumed that the link to the "original article" was referring to the original article that was corrected in the correction, rather than an article from 3 years ago.

Heh, cute mistake.

I'd have to agree with Flav, though. Thrice have I had occasion to use 911, and all three times have gone basically the same - They wouldn't even listen to why I called until they had enough biographical info on me to practically write a resume for me. Thank Zeus I've never needed to call while rapidly bleeding to death, or I would have.

They also seemed to have no idea about my location (calling once from a landline and twice from a modern E911-compliant GPS-enabled cellphone). Remind me why I had to upgrade my cell to a compliant one, if the single justification for it doesn't have access to that data?

So... Get up, get get, get down. And keep one of your speed-dial buttons programmed directly to the local ambulance dispatch number. :)

The "original article" in the post isn't the right one. Here's the real one. ("Public Enemy has earned notoriety with more than 20 years of politically charged music about fighting the power, challenging racism and declaring that 911 was a joke.") I'm guessing it was just a dumb copy editor's mistake to put a slash in 911.

I was using eBay quite a bit in Sept. 2001 and in the immediate aftermath, there was a guy in Minnesota riding my ass about a delayed delivery. In return, I gave him a bad time about it, saying "There was a bit of an airplane kerfluffle this week, which is slowing down deliveries - you might have seen it mentioned on the news."

Yikes. I am thankful that my semen-related costs run relatively low due to my insurance having generous coverage for most birth control medications.

"Best of the web" was at most an informal slogan and has nothing to do with actual content or posting requirements.
