What happened to the Double Gulp? (64 ounces) Did it lose some weight and become extreme?

(sorry to those who have seen this a million times, but I still think it's awesome, and the use of "pop" above made me think of it.)

What's the holdup? Just sell a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi with a straw in the cap and a handle on the side already!! Geez...

this is just the thing for those occasions where you eat too much jello mix and need some liquid to get rid of the awful stomach that ensues.

Regardless of the urban legend, anyone attempting to drink THAT much Mountain Dew: Code Red should have their reproductive capabilities hampered.

The Onion did a story on the increasing size of sodas a while back. Here's the story, if you are interested. Pretty funny stuff, actually.

Sorry maam, you can either have cup holders or a CD player on that new Explorer, but not both...

We've had these in NJ for about 2 months now and g'DAMN they are big. They (7-11) claim that it will keep the soda cold for up to 6 hours. Plus after the initial ($3.99?) investment, refills are signifigantly cheaper.

One of these days I'm planning on getting one to keep me going though those long 4-hour master's classes...

from the onion article:

"The three-liter didn't fail because it was too big, but because it was not big enough," Coca-Cola CEO Vic Hertner said. "With our new 30-liter size, that won't be a problem. Two liters is nothing. I could urinate two liters for you right now. But 30 liters? That's untouchable."

LOL

keep you going it will

When you factor in the ice, you're probably talking as little as 35 oz. of soda, less than two 20 oz. bottles. As long as the ice lasts, it doesn't go flat, so you're good for a long drive.

With pit stops, obviously.

I like lots of soda with lots of ice. The problem with the larger cups is that it seems to be increasingly difficult to get a lid to fit snugly and stay on as the diameter of the cup increases.

Ahhh, but don't forget that the ice melts over that long drive and you drink that water along with the dispensed soda. Probably not enough to make up the remaining 27 ounces, but it adds up on those long lonely roads where there are no places to pee.

pfft. there's *always* a place to pee.

you just have to be imaginative.

Obviously, once you've emptied that damn big bucket o' soda you can pee in that!

Only a male would say "there's *always* a place to pee."

I'll stick with my 20 oz. bottles of water, thanks.

hell, you could house a family of four in that big bucket o' soda.

Re: always a place to pee.
The other day outside of K-mart there was a guy sitting on his motorcycle. He had his dick out of his shorts and was unobtrusively peeing.

You got to live in a bucket of soda? Luxury!

When I was a tot we housed sixteen of my brothers and sisters in a styrofoam coffee cup, in the middle of the road, surrounded by rats!

In regards to the "x-treme", it's all marketing. The 64 oz. has been around for ages. Excellent for wandering around town with half-lemonade/half-vodka. (Not that I would know anything about that.)

I think it would be harder to pee in a 20 oz. bottle than it would be to pee into a 52 oz. cup...

This reminds of an old Seinfeld joke. Someday Big Gulps will be so huge, they won't even be served in cups. You'll have to go around to the back of the building where someone will just hook you up to a really big hose.

(At least I think it was Seinfeld.)

That'd be great. Then they can put in a catheter and call me non-reversible filter!

I would regularly drink Diet Coke straight from the two-liter bottle all throughout high school. Finish it before second period was over, too. I miss being indestructible like that.

No, no, the whole point is that 20 oz. of water is less horrible-need-to-pee inducing than 52 oz. of anything. These are things you think about when you've birthed a few kidlets and find with each successive one your bladder capacity decreases by about a quarter.

52 ounces of Coke goes well with the 48-oz ribeyes that lots of steakhouses serve. I don't eat red meat, but I imagine that you'd need all the caffeine to keep you up after eating that much beef (provided your local steakhouse allows you through the front door with a 7-11 cup).

Which gives me another idea: these mega-gulps may help me stay awake on the ride home from Thanksgiving dinner.

I just like that the word "Extreme" is now associated with two things:

1) People engaging in athletic events which require a staggering amount of physical prowess; and
2) People sitting on their fat asses and imbibing a staggering amount of cola.

This was on Fark yesterday, with nearly the same comments, and I'm still confused. 7-11 has had a Double Gulp at 64 ounces for years and I can put away two in about an hour when I'm thirsty. It's really not that much, only half a gallon. Of course, I usually get them with water and a dash of lemonade, an option not available at most 7-11 locations. There is such a thing as too much coke.

Do you by any chance live in Texas? I've been to a lot of steakhouses in the midwest and have never seen anything as big as a 48 oz steak on any menu.

While I can inhale 32oz of water in about five seconds if I'm particularly parched, the thought of downing the same amount of soda in that short a time makes me physically ill.
I don't like pancakes. I do like waffles, however.

anapestic said (or quoted, not sure): One of these days I'm planning on getting one to keep me going though those long 4-hour master's classes...

I used to show up to my 5 hour Saturday English Lit. class late every day with nothing but a 64 Oz. soda from Circle K (Gatorade if I had a hangover, Diet Coke otherwise).

Finally, the teacher was fed up. "Sir, you show up at least an hour late to every class with no notebook, no pen, no text book and your giant drink. I think you need to leave my class," said he.

I asked him if I should come back the next Saturday. He calmed down a little and told me to try again next week.

I ended up with an 'A' in that class...

Half a gallon of water with a little lemon flavor and half a gallon of high fructose corn syrup with carbonated water are two very different beverages, my friend.

And if you were wondering why surveys keep showing more and more Americans are overweight....

Once upon a time Coca-Cola was only sold in eight-ounce bottles. Think about that.

And Plinth, the no splashback feature only works when you've got the proper equipment for precision aim...
