I remember when I first learned that "a lot" was two words instead of one. That was a real "what the fuck" day for me.

It was middle school, for me. Did anyone else have Mr. Hand for 5th-grade English? Mr. Hand had a short-list style guide which I have mostly forgotten, except for that which is forever emblazoned on my memory:
A LOT IS TWO WORDS!
I think it was actually rules #1 and #2, like Fight Club.
