Dogs may go to heaven, but cats go to Florida

Homeless cats get their own "village". Craig Grant went from not liking cats to having one. Then the one cat had some more of its own. The cats started to be a problem for Craig - not only were neighbors complaining but the cats were being harassed. Unwilling to give up the cats, he started looking for a solution. A newspaper advertisement led him to a tree farm 100 miles away from his Jacksonville condo. Craig picked up some acreage and built The Caboodle Ranch, a sanctuary for cats. He spent over $100,000 to build the place, which is now a registered nonprofit cat rescue. It's been visited and approved by the RSPCA, and it's become Craig's life. Not only does he live with the large population of cats, he has had them all spayed, kept their shots up to date, and keeps the shelters and litterboxes sanitized and clean. More photos on Facebook.

Technically the cats own the house, you'd be their tenants.

I hope they bell those cats.

Sure, there's a nice ending, but the beginning of the story makes me sad. Why wasn't the first cat spayed, for god's sake? The neighbours were shooting the kittens with BB guns?? I hate people.

If more rich people did things like this with their money, I probably wouldn't be as upset about the idea of rich people.

I wonder what the effect is on local bird populations. Do the cats have the run of 30 acres of land to hunt whatever songbirds may be migrating into Florida for the season?

That is some quality crazy.

Though technically homeless cats have their own city - it's called Rome.

This is, like, hoarding so bad that it wraps around and becomes awesome.

I can't imagine it's very big. After all 30 acres in relation to a migratory path is kind of teeny.

Maybe 4chan should team up and give this guy some kind of massive internet hug?

I doubt a hug from 4chan would turn out well.

See, when I was a kid I was going to be a vet, buy a huge plot of land, and adopt every stray dog and cat I could. Obviously common sense got the best of me, and kids, a career, and well, getting Cisco certifications instead of going to veterinary school. But this guy? He's living my inner child's dream. He's probably doing it a hundred times more sensibly than I would have, too.
