Even I think that's cruel.

I was expecting something more along the lines of Cake Wrecks, where the tombstone carver just failed. These are mean-spirited, at once sophomoric and snobbish, which is a cute trick, but not actually, you know, funny.

This reminds me of one of my all time favourite headstones via Snopes: Epitaph on headstone in Montreal cemetery forms an unflattering acrostic.

I believe the creator of the web site was in fact inspired by Cake Wrecks. But it doesn't have quite the same effect, does it?

No. No it does not.

It's so clever and hilarious to make fun of people's names. In third grade.

Very depressing indeed.

These are just mean. I don't see why a tombstone that just says Peace is supposed to be hilarious, just because it's a shade away from saying Peace Out. Caught Dead in That is more interesting.

Is nothing sacred?

Not only is the concept mean, but the jokes aren't even remotely funny. Huh?

Confess, Fletch: "Is nothing sacred?"

I hope not.

Is this part where we act like somebody just crossed the line.

I'm not against the concept, but the delivery is pretty weak. It's best to have somebody funny making the funny comments. It's more funny that way.

confesses to laughing out loud at the star wars one

Is this because we cremate (messily, on banks of rivers, on beds of wood, with pots of ghee)

I followed the cake wrecks link to this the other day, and found reading the site to be a strange experience. First I was amused by the absurdity, then I felt guilty for being amused, and then I imagined those graves with people stood round them and I had to go find someone to hold me.

I've lost a few people recently.

It's an interesting idea, but unfortunately these just make me wince at the guy writing it not so much for the failed humor (that can happen to anyone, especially if you're trying) but for the kind of mean-spiritedness; I think this could be done in a funny way but unfortunately I don't believe that this is it. I think that kindness is a pre-requisite for me appreciating humor (not necessarily respecting boundaries, but not just being an asshole for the hell of it), and these don't make me laugh.

Rodney Dangerfield's tombstone makes me laugh; it says "There Goes the Neighborhood" which is I think the most amazingly beautiful thing you could put on Rodney Dangerfield's tombstone because it celebrates him and appreciates him as he actually was rather than trying to make something else of him in death. Also, although I find it very poignant for this reason, it actually does make me laugh. This website does not.

This site, as much as I love Cake Wrecks/Regretsy etc..., is just dumb.

Like this one :

"A land of domestic beers, cheap-ass lawn chairs, fishin' holes, and skanky* bowling alleys."

I sure as hell hope so.

"*My spell check doesn't know this word. Apparently it attended some fancy ivy league school. "

Oh, shut up.

I'm generally receptive to black humor. Humor being the operative word.

I rather like this one.
