WTF Toys from Japan: bizarre, fun or creepy, they also include the awesome Samurai Obama. More WTF here.

I want my Samurai Obama! Now and forevermore, (or at least for the next four years) we will no doubt be drowning in ridiculous Obama kitsch products.

ha ha oh japan you are so crazy

it is a good thing we are citizens of civilized western countries which do not manufacture items such as these

Damn! I was just about to make a tasteful joke about the aftereffects of the atom bomb.

Uh, I've read about those anatomical models. They're 19th teaching aides, though they were apparently also exhibited for entertainment. Not, however given to children.

Wow, I'm only up to the second item on the list and already calling bullshit. Nice work, Stella. If that is your real name. If this is your magazine.

Meanwhile, in the post just before this, there's a lovely discussion of Japan and Japanese pop-culture that has none of his "hey, Japanese people sure are weird" crap. Sorry, it gets old.

There is a world of difference between a Miyazaki film and a Samurai Obama doll or a "shave the baby" doll. And I'm glad both can be discussed on Mefi for their various merits. WTF-ery is as amusing/puzzling as Miyazaki's films are spellbinding/magical.

Is this where we get to talk about Tsumineko? I love those things!

Like sunk at least $15 into those damn things already...

Wow, that's a skeevy site. No offense, bwg, but half that page is full of Fark-level garbage.

Oh, and the Obama figure has been linked here before (from which the pictures in the FFP were taken without permission, it seems).

Yeah, I knew it wasn't the greatest site (lousy writing and I hated the way it looked), but I figured some of those toys were worth mentioning, because they are in fact bizarre and worth a look (I didn't know about the previous post with Samurai Obama).

But it's not a "Japanese people sure are weird" post; I just wanted to point out the toys themselves.

gee, I'd really like to cheack all these out, but you know, I just can't stop clicking on all those fabulous links like "Girls at Las Vegas Pool Party".

But, no, I'll tear myself away, and give this a look...

OK, the Shave the Baby is almost certainly from China. You know, that much larger country near Japan? Yeah, right! Haha! They're two different countries! Gotcha!

Otherwise, otherwise... yeah, I think I'll just stop there. Cause this really is crap, sorry to say.

Don't take it hard, bwg. Heck, because of this post, I checked out your profile, that led me to your flickr page, and THAT is full of treasures, man! I just made you a flickr contact.

In case you can't read kanji: the "shave the baby" doll is Chinese.

Wow, that's a skeevy site. --- More real estate on that page is devoted to links to other stories than to the "real" content of the page.

The shave the baby doll isn't even a real toy, it's art.

Here's the [NSFW] link to the shave the baby artist and some other odd works.

I just took flapjax's advice and checked out your Flickr stream, bwg. Beautiful pictures, sir. Hong Kong is just utterly fascinating to me. I've added you as a contact.

Thanks gc.

Just so you know, I flagged my own post and hope the Mod Squad will kill it.

I really ought not post when I'm tired.

I'll try to do better next time.

I really ought not post when I'm tired.

You haven't committed a sin until you've posted when you're tired and drunk. And angry. And stoned.

That reminds me... I've got to make a post.

Well, I have done three of four. Haven't been stoned though.

Screw it, I'm still gonna get this thing killed. " )

hey I am a fan of if not the page itself, then the material contained therein. I am glad that, this fine Sunday morning, I know that somewhere at sometime someone created The Baby That You Can Shave. It is, and I am totally serious, producing a bit of an acid flashback for me.
posted by angrycat at 7:05 AM on January 16, 2011

The writing on the shaveable baby packaging is Chinese, not Japanese. I'm astounding that this clearly serious and reputable website has such low journalistic standards.

I'm just glad to get the story behind that iconic image of the boy with the toy gun.

Most of the time, this cat as well as the real one is sleepy, but also can produce a voice similar to a real cat, but when you touch its belly this cat can move its pews.

Our cat does not yet have a church.

Yes this is not a joke this is American President as a toy! It is high 12 inches, the size of a real 1 / 6 Obama!

How many of these 1:6 scale Obamas are there? And are there enough 1:6 Secret Service agents to protect them?
