Massively Multiplayer Online Photo Sharing. A too-brief interview with Eric Costello about how The5K * begat The Game Neverending* begat Flickr.* "There’s kind of a feeling of exploration within Flickr. It feels like a world where you can move around and find wonderful things – the wonderful things being the great photographs that people upload."

Winners of The 5K Competition revealed. Remember the thread about the call for entries back in May? Well, there were many fine entries, but finally the winners have been announced. Check out the Editor's picks for the cream of the crop. My favorite is Wolfenstein 5K, which ones have you enjoyed? Of course, 'real men' do it in 256 bytes instead ;-)

The 2002 5k competition entries posted. By my count, 366 entries in this year's 5k competition, up from last year. Looks like anyone can still view and rate them like last year, but final judging has changed (list of judges here).

1/20th the size of 5k: the 256b competition
Most won't work on anything but Win/IE5+, and you have to download the (65.2Kb) .zip file, but ... wow.

5k 2001 contest winners Winners now listed. It was a great crop, and - as is usual on the Web - porn rules.

The 5k entries are now viewable ...and boy are some of them amazing! 5k chess games, 5k pornography, 5k mandelbrot sets, even a bunch of 5k Flash movies...fantastic. Leave last year's entries in the dust. (a MetaFilter password works for login.)

The 5k has returned! So, is this just of interest to web geeks, or will it cross over to the general masses of curious web surfers? Is it more about functionality in the tiny site, or art? What's the deal with the "Anything Goes" category, is it compromising the idea of the 5k? So many questions...

5k site debuts ...and it's awesome. Stewart, Eric and Matt have obviously collaborated well on this project.
It really whets my appetite for the TicketStubs site, which I'm really looking forward to, aren't you?

The 5k Contest - Round II? From an email I just got: We're getting close to launching the new 5k contest site, and as an entrant in the 2000 competition, you are invited to help us in our beta testing!. Wow. I'm very excited.

The winners of the 5K contest have been announced. Not all of my personal favorites made it into the top 10, but I think that they are all very strong entries, which is all one can hope for in contests like these.

Please help me out. Only a few days left till the 5k has to be finished. I just went through three marathon days in a row getting entries into the database, but it is hard to select ones to send to the judges. Have a look and send your recommendations in (instructions on that page).

Looks like the 5k design contest got to be a bit overwhelmed...I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of sites the judges go for.

What can you do with 5120 bytes? syllage.com is giving away 5120 pennies for the most clever, original and functional answer. (And hey, some of those judges sure look familiar.)
