While we've discussed it before
, the link was removed but YouTube's new content guidelines have allowed it to be re-uploaded. In 2001, photographer and filmmaker David LaChapelle
directed a video to be shown before Heatherette's first runway show and MAC cosmetics in-store video. Starring Amanda Lepore, the 6 minute video is a bizarre gunshot of pink lipstick, gay cowboys, 80s pop music, and constant full frontal nudity. YouTube

Earth, 2147. The legacy of the Metal Wars, where man fought machines—and machines won. Bio-Dreads — monstrous creations that hunt down human survivors... and digitize them!
In 1987, before he created Babylon 5, J. Michael Straczynski was a writer for Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future
, a live-action sci-fi show for kids. 24 episodes were produced. Straczynski wrote or co-wrote 14 of them, including multi-episode plot arcs. A line of interactive toys
brought the battle into kids’ living rooms, and Captain Power
was also one of the very first shows on television to feature computer animation in every episode. But in an attempt to appeal to both children and the adults who watched with them, the campy show included some concepts and scenes critics deemed too violent for children and lasted only a single season in syndication. The full run of the show has now been uploaded to Youtube. [more inside]

Some might find it difficult to believe that this was the video
to a 1984 number one hit, although it's not surprising to learn that the video was banned (as was the song, leaving the BBC in the uncomfortable position of being unable to broadcast their country's biggest hit on any of its radio or television programs). The G rated
version was directed by Brian De Palma
and, oddly, appeared (in slightly altered form) in Body Double
as a porno film within the movie.
Although the band
had other hits, notably Two Tribes
which was rivaled only by Land of Confusion
for most over-the-top Reagan representation in a music video, they have been beset with problems, primarily relating to who owns
, but rest assured that lead singer Holly Johnson
is doing well in his new calling as a painter. This astrological chart
nicely (?) sums up his entire career.
Incidentally, Katherine Hamnett
, who designed the hugely popular Frankie Say Relax
t-shirts (along with Wham's Choose Life
tees which, ironically, birthed an anti-abortion moto) is still a successful designer, who continues to be active in environmental, HIV eradication, and anti-war efforts.
Anyhow, check out the wacky Relax video. But beware of naked, shaving Roman Emperors.
