Eight years of Eisner Awards for Digital Comics

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, commonly shortened to the Eisner Awards, are prizes given for creative achievement in American comic books since 1988. The digital comic category was added in 2005. Some say the category could be expanded, given the abundance of digital creations. Regardless, there are 42 different titles nominated in the past 8 years. The 2013 nominations have been made: Ant Comic, by Michael DeForge (previously, twice) | Bandette, by Paul Tobin and Colleen Coover | It Will All Hurt, by Farel Dalrymple (previously) | Our Bloodstained Roof, by Ryan Andrews (previously) | Oyster War, by Ben Towle. Nominations and winners from prior years inside. [more inside]

Laurie Anderson in the Believer

"Five thousand years from now—let’s say we didn’t find the God particle. We’re still looking. I think we probably won’t be making things of the nature that we are now. I think we’ll just be trying to appreciate things more. Maybe we’ll design better ears. I mean, our hearing’s crappy. We’ll have huge ears and we’ll be able to tune in to Mars, or we’ll have a hundred lenses through which we can look onto the surface of Mars with our so-called “bare eyes,” or look through our hands. We’ll be able to be in the present more effectively." The Believer interviews Laurie Anderson.

"Dumbo Feather Pass It On is a stupid name for a magazine"

Dumbo Feather is an Australian quarterly print magazine which features five "extended (20 page) profiles of people worth knowing, across enterprise, science, politics, fashion and the arts." They're only just establishing an online presence. Profile archive is slim at the moment, but does include a lengthy interview from their current issue with Chris Anderson, curator of TED. A blog entry asks readers to submit their favorite TED talks, and an ongoing feature: Harnell Fletcher's Interviews with Children is taking submissions, too.

How many more years, do I let you dog me around

"You can just about hear [the music] sometimes," Anderson said. "And you look at it on the meters and you see what it's doing. And your dog's ears will be twitching." Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson take a walkies on the wild side.

One man can change the world with a bullet in the right place

Before Caligula, Cat People & Star Trek: Generations, even before he played Alex de Large in Clockwork Orange, Malcolm McDowell was dashingly rebellious in Lindsay Anderson's If. (Some background of that cafe scene)

Stille Nacht

Alfred Anderson, last survivor of the 1914 Christmas Truce
Apparently, Alfred Anderson is the last man still living who spent 25 December 1914 serving in a conflict that left 31 million people dead, wounded or missing.

All this week the Chicago Tribune has been running a special in-depth series about the Enron/Anderson debacle.

All this week the Chicago Tribune has been running a special in-depth series about the Enron/Anderson debacle. There's lots of interesting reading here, most of which leaves one shocked at seeing how some American businesses are run. A good starter is Ties to Enron Blinded Anderson, which shows how the greed of both companies mixed with the old boy's club mantra of 'scratch my back and I'll scratch yours' led to collusion and fraud on level never before known in modern business. I just saw Magnolia, and went looking for interviews with P.T. Anderson, the writer-director. I found one on a fan site, with a bunch of great insider stuff, but I wouldn't suggest reading it unless you've seen Magnolia. Too many spoilers.
