Once upon a time, on a now defunct site called Regretsy, there was a post about an Etsy-listed pair of "skants"
, priced at a mere $758(USD)
. Much mockery ensued, and skants became a meme of sorts, with Regretsy readers sending site owner April Winchell their own skants pictures
. And now knitwear designer Stephen West
has taken up the skants gauntlet by bringing us the next evolution in skants: swants. He's posted a tutorial on how to make your own swants
, and a video of the Swants Dance
. Swants promise to be bigger than skants ever were. Since Stephen West posted his tutorial on November 4, swants have appeared on The Today Show
, on Boing Boing
, and on Cosmopolitan's blog
, as well as on a number of other blogs and news sites. Will you
be doing the Swants Dance?

On April 20th, Etsy, which as many of you know is an online marketplace for handmade and vintage goods and craft materials only
, featured seller Ecologica Malibu and posted an interview they’d conducted with its owner Mariana Schechter
, who talked about the salvaged wood furniture she designs and builds, and about how she "always felt that there was magic in the trees and a mysterious energy in the ocean" and that "there is something personal and unique that occurs when you craft something with your hands". Oddly for a featured seller interview, there was no detail given about the process of how Schechter makes her furniture and no photos of her in her workshop making them. On April 21st, April Winchell posted to Regretsy about Schechter
. She’d delved a little more deeply into the matter, and though she didn’t come up with any photos of Schechter making furniture in her workshop either, she had
found Schechter’s "work" on Overstock.com and bills of lading for furniture shipped from factories in Bali to her office building in Malibu. [more inside]

Staggeringly weird MP3 collection
over at April Winchell's blog. Everything from Hindi ABBA covers to hideous celebrity sing alongs from the likes of Hulk Hogan and Catherine "Daisy Duke" Bach. My favorite so far is the german cover of the theme music from Bonanza.fromCKB's blog.
