Photorealism has been highlighted here on the blue, where 2D work is made to look 3 dimensional. But what about the opposite? Artist
Alex Meade's live-model photographs look like paintings.

"I replied to ads people had posted to the casual encounters section of craigslist. I asked if I could photograph them in visual representations of their ads.
Some said yes." [NSFW: naked people.]

Karel Teige was a major figure in the Czech avant-garde; a writer, designer, typographer and collagist.
He was a member of
Devětsil and later joined the Prague Surrealist group with
Toyen and
Jindrich Styrsky.
Here are some of his
Book Covers of the 1920- and 1930's and 1926 he made
ABECEDA with each letter posed by the dancer Milca Mayerová.
Here is a
video reconstruction of the dance moves.
Teige died in 1951 of a heart attack, said to be a result of a ferocious Soviet press campaign against him as a 'Trotskyite degenerate,' his papers were destroyed by the secret police, and his published work was suppressed for decades.
The
Central European Review has some articles on his work.

This post is a) NSFW or grandmothers, b) Derivative of previous stuff on Metafilter. Having said that, here goes: Canada is a Spanish production company. They do ads, fashion and the best videos I've seen in a very long time. You'd do well to start
here.

Does anyone remember Glassdog (the fake corporation, that is)?
Panther house is sort of the ten-years-later version. (Bonus:

The Ad Generator is a generative artwork that explores how advertising uses and manipulates language. What it actually does is that it randomizes words and structures from real advertising slogans and pairs them with related images from Flickr, generating fake ads on the fly.

Art teacher in hot water over topless photos - Meet
Tamara, a 29 year old art teacher at Austin High School (
notable alumni) in Austin, TX. She's in danger of losing her job with the Austin independent School District over inappropriate photos posted to her
Flickr account (may be NSFW). "I'm an artist and I'm going to participate in the arts," Hoover said. "If that's not something they want me to do then I want to be told that. I don't feel as if I was doing anything that was beyond expectations."

He has
cavorted naked with Charlotte Rampling [this is VERY NSFW] and
covered himself in caviar for Marc Jacobs, but
Jürgen Teller thinks "fashion is a wank".
Teller's first solo show in Paris is entitled "Nurnberg", it consists of
a sequence of images (annoying Flash site, sorry) taken at the infamous
Zeppelintribune parade ground,
site of Nazi propaganda rallies, which was designed by Hitler's favourite builder, Albert Speer. Over several months,
Teller (.pdf) has photographed the monument, the podium and the steep, ruthless steps, all of which have been left to decay. Or not. "It wasn't really maintained, but if there was a broken step, or a smashed wall, it would be mysteriously replaced with a new one."
Teller's photographs show the delicate weeds, flowers and lichen [NSFW] that have grown up around the stone blocks. "In Germany, there is a saying about letting the grass grow over things, meaning that events will eventually be forgotten".
