Scientists at the Auckland Museum will be performing a necropsy of a great white Shark between 11am and 1pm New Zealand time on Thursday. Though they will be examining the contents of its gut, they will also, among other things, look at its sex organs (female) and jaw. The necropsy will be viewable on the web from 2pm NZ time (when's that?). [more inside]

"I just began photographing desperately. I really overshot because I was so desperate to always keep the camera going; every moment I stopped photographing I really felt like I might faint, or burst into tears, or come apart, or something like that." [more inside]

UpdateFilter: Schiavo autopsy results --contrary to those who used this poor shell of a woman as a political football and fundraiser, Schiavo was not abused, was blind so could not possibly have seen a balloon or her loved ones, and had a brain half the normal weight that was massively and irreversibly damaged.
previous posts here--and just one example of the many many lies printed about her and her husband here. Some people should really be ashamed of themselves.

Previously discussed here, the Body World exhibition in, London, Brick Lane is hosting what is to be the last publicly performed autopsy before they are banned. I've seen the exhibition and felt that it was done very well, but I'm not sure ill be attending the autopsy with as much haste. Macabre voyeurism or lay man intrigue? Its being rumored that is may also be televised on channel 4

Educational post-mortem autopsy video. I found this utterly fascinating. Needless to say many people will not react in the same way. [QuickTime]

The Virtual Autopsy is great fun for those of us who grew up watching too much Quincy. It's also a lot more interesting than playing Operation. Caution, graphic images of internal organs!

The Autopsy -- a behind-the-scenes look at the hidden and disturbing world of autopsies from Methylsalicylate. 'The work swallows you, tact is right out the window, and you find yourself discussing decapitation over lunch, laughing. Someone points out that your blood oranges-and-balsamic vinegar salad looks like a tub of organs. You laugh some more. It is well known that your colleagues will die young; that's the way it is. You do not think about who will have to do their autopsies.'
