Illustrated BMI Categories, a Flickr project where you can see what "underweight," "normal," "overweight," "obese," and "morbidly obese," BMI categories look like on real people (safe for work) (mostly women). I think that many people would be surprised by what 180lbs looks like. In addition to not looking what you might have expected fat to look like, it may also not mean what you thought it meant: Ampersand's analysis of a study that correlates death risk with BMI and ethnicity, including charts; Sandy Szwarc's analysis of studies showing positive health correlations for older people and women; Conclusion: This is nuts. Love your body. Be happy.

The most recent post on Brendan Grant's site is an unfortunate one: "For those who do not know, back on July 12th I had my house broken into." The full story is over here, but it has a upside: Grant recently picked up a used webcam that takes shots automatically when someone walks past, and caught the break-in.

"Mohammed, do you ever get that 'not so fresh' feeling?" The Captions Blog takes press photos and adds humorous fictitious comments. One of my favorites is a photo of two military men wrestling. The caption reads, "Soldiers prepare for Operation Sweet Sweet Lovin'." Kudos to the highly amusing moderator and creator Jeff Druzba. He seems to have prevented this site from devolving into the baffling inside references and unfunny gross-out jokes that proliferate on other group "humor" blogs.
