Jeremy's CyberCafe and Beer Haus is up for sale,

Jeremy's CyberCafe and Beer Haus is up for sale, but what's really cool about it is that it is located just outside of Joshua Tree National Park in the Southern California desert, and they have a full T-1 line that they're selling along with the business. Hmm...T-1 access plus nearby national park? Maybe we should take up a collection and buy it ourselves? :)

If you've never lived in California, you really ought to give this site a try. We haven't had a big one in a few years, so I guess we're due for a devastating one any day now...

Noooooooooooooooooo!

Noooooooooooooooooo! Prop 22 looks to be passing in a landslide. I thought we were better than this (the Vote2000 site is a great resource though).

I hope all the Californians that are reading this today have voted. There's a great site at CalVoter.org that features a page listing all the top financial backers of the propositions. There are some curious contributors in there, like why are oil companies and public utilities behind the "try gang kids as adults and put them in real prisions" prop? There's a few dot com millionaires on the No on 22 campaign, and obviously a lot of tobacco companies want to see the cigarette tax repealed.

The most disgusting things I've seen in California this year are the parents against a student group and Propsition 22. Last night, I saw that support for prop 22 was leading in the polls, which I find incomprehensible. The LA Times has a summary of what religious leaders think about it, and there's a protest against the proposition by 400 clergymen this weekend. If even these guys have problems with it, why would the average citizen support it? Hopefully reason will win out on this one, but unfortunately, if you haven't already registered to vote in CA, it's too late for this primary election.

For those of you in Southern California, Jesse Berst is speaking this Friday.

For those of you in Southern California, Jesse Berst is speaking this Friday. Great, I hope I don't forget to bring my gun filled with "shut-the-f*ck-up" bullets. Hmm, on second thought, I better bring an extra box.

The California DMV has a cool search engine for custom license plates,

The California DMV has a cool search engine for custom license plates, but pretty much anything with the words 'web' 'nerd' or 'geek' are taken. About the only remotely interesting thing I could find was TEKGEEK.

Salon is running a piece on how the internet has ruined San Francisco.

Salon is running a piece on how the internet has ruined San Francisco. I have to say I agree 100%. I've lived in Southern California all my life and S.F. has historically been a much cooler, mellower place that I looked forward to visiting. But over the past couple of years, I've found myself travelling up there once every couple months, and every time I go it's busier, more crowded, and everyone is in a bigger hurry. For me, the mystique of S.F. is totally gone. The dotcom riches have ruined the place. [found at Camworld]

This is pretty cool, a map based on frequency of people saying they felt the recent earthquake

This is pretty cool, a map based on frequency of people saying they felt the recent earthquake in Southern California. It's clearly non-scientific, but interesting that the USGS is collecting 'community data.'
