According to the Pulitzer Prize winning Politifact.com, change has stalled. Obama has kept 2 of his top 25 campaign promises so far. But he hasn't closed Guantanamo, restored habeus corpus for "enemy combatatnts", attempted to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell, attempted to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, or cracked down on lobbyists. With promises on healthcare in the works, Obama seems to be at a crucial point in his first term.

But do they play Sam & Dave while you wait?

Obama is campaigning on the Electronic Arts/Criterion Games Burnout Paradise, EA's improbably named spokesperson Holly Rockwood has confirmed. But does his advertising go counter to his message? Indeed, the Democratic candidate for the Presidency told Americans to "turn off the television set, and put the video games away,” in order to improve America's youth.

McCain and Governor Palin have each suggested eBay as a fix for the economy, tool for government reform, and strategy for homeland security. Perhaps it's because former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, in spite of disagreeing with parts of his technology platform, is co-chair of McCain's campaign?

John McCain was trained as a fighter pilot. Fighter pilot training is greatly influenced by John Boyd, who developed the OODA loop theory, which some say General Petraeus has adapted to the ground in Iraq, the real reason "the surge" appears successful. The OODA loop has been applied to business, computer security and now it appears that McCain is applying it to politics with some success. Obama has spent 19 months talking about change, and McCain and Palin have been talking about it for 2 weeks; Can Obama get back inside McCain's already tight OODA loop? It appears he's trying. By referring to McCain's recent attacks as "Dishonorable" the Obama campaign hopes to counter-act McCain's honorable military service.

Want to live it up at the U.S. party conventions and get access to Senators and Congressmen? USA Today has posted the campaign committee price lists:
Democratic Senate and Congress
Republican Senate and Congress

If you've got the dough, you may conveniently request a convention package online from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. The National Republican Congressional Committee and the NRSC have other price lists on their sites, but it seems like the DSCC and DCCC sites keep theirs under wraps.

Some advice for Mefites who want to run for Congress: It is probably not a good idea to give a speech at a birthday celebration for Hitler. It is also generally considered tacky to discuss segregation in a positive light. Also, posting anti-Semitic comments, links to David Duke's website, and other scary but interesting articles to your official campaign website is probably not a good idea, even if you actually seem to be a reasonably competent lawyer.

Campaign Finance Bites the Hand That Made It

Last year, as McCain's campaign seemed stumbling into the grave, it applied for federal matching funds for the primary season. After Super Tuesday, McCain withdrew from the system. Or did he? If he didn't, he's capped at $54 million to spend till September -- and he's already spent $50 million of it. Former FEC Chairman Brad Smith tells, in bravura detail, the whole whirling story. (via Election Law Blog) McCain attempted to withdraw not having received any matching funds. Receiving any funds would have locked him into the system. He did, however, obtain a loan in December 2007 which pledged as collateral -- not the federal matching funds he had already qualified for, as that would legally lock him into the system -- federal matching funds which he would receive as a result of pledging, in the loan documents, to reenter the matching funds system if he dropped out of it in December and subsequently did poorly in New Hampshire! Now there's a question of whether he can actually withdraw or not. Meanwhile, the FEC lacks a quorum to make a ruling, and Obama put a hold on nominees who might have given it a quorum. And there are other complications, like how entering the matching system might have put McCain on the Ohio ballot at minimal expense. Brad Smith's conclusion: the law is way too complicated.

There really are no accidents [NSFW] Talking corpses who had been electrocuted, impaled by steel rods or lacerated by broken glass didn't get the message across. Now, an even more graphic series of ads is spotlighting workplace safety in Ontario and grabbing attention well beyond the province's borders. Ontario's Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) has launched a new (and graphic) campaign to help improve workplace safety. Family Man gets blown off side of building; Forklift driver gets impaled by metal rod; A shop clerk topples off a ladder; An electrocuted corpse speaks at his own funeral Luckily for the WSIB, there's always YouTube, because the Ontario workplace safety org's site for this campaign is needlessly complicated and Flash-heavy - it's really no accident.
