Garth Turner, former Member of Parliament and current entertaining, curmudgeonly, and well-informed Greater Fool blogger about Canadian real estate -- and the world economy generally -- gives
his predictions for 2012. The main one, IMO, is the one that he talks about relentlessly in his postings: "Most people won't get it."

Politicians who live in glass houses, etc. ... The Canadian House of Commons is in need of repair, and while it's being done, a
dome will cover the elected gabbers. It might cost as "little" as $42 million or as much as $1 billion. The pre-construction
vacuuming has already begun.

The president of Penguin Canada has been
fired and is facing a sexual harrassment suit. Oh, and
a second woman has alleged harrassment as well. There's some
criticism of Penguin also for trying to cover up the facts at first. And there's a portrait of the "
artist" as a young man. Sounds like it would make a good book ...

The
rumours are increasing that there will be a merger between the two left-leaning political parties in Canada, the hapless Liberals under the wooden Michael Ignatieff, and the perennial almost-show New Democrats under the magnificently
mustached Jack Layton. Denials all 'round, of course, but as separate parties they have not managed to take down Stephen Harper and his wiley Conservatives.
