Check out my voodoo mask!

Excellent footage of the stunningly beautiful yet bizarre courtship and mating behavior of the Peacock Spider. This is quite possibly the first footage of this quality that shows this behavior. Many jumping spiders have elaborate courtship dances. More Previously.

Trevor dances in the Apple Store

iTr3vor does not seem to know how to un-mirror his video clips and has only the vaguest understanding of copyright law. But he does like dancing in Apple Stores to the works of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Rebecca Black, among others.

All around the mulberry bush...

I was doing some research on Dryads when I stumbled upon the TreeSpirit Project. To cut to the chase, it appears to be a series of artful, tasteful photographs of people dancing butt-naked around trees. What more can I say? Well, other than NSFW, obviously...

Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan has entered a long line of ballet movies to critical acclaim, Golden Globe nominations and Oscar buzz. But what do ballerinas think of it?

Rather be alive than remembered

Oakland's Turf Feinz (previously) dance in memorial for Oscar Grant (previously). While the riots in Oakland received more media coverage (previously, previously), there's been several memorial murals painted across Oakland and numerous songs channeling local anger, outrage, observations, lamentations, reflections, and frustration. The news gave the nation broken windows and burning cars, while the town continues peaceful protest, 2 years later.

The Urban Ballerina

Ballerina Project — Nine years ago, young photographer Dane Shitagi walked up New York City’s Broadway towards the highly patronized and well known STEPS dance studios in search of a ballet dancer who could help him begin his project: to capture images of ballerinas in urban environments. Those images first started appearing on Blogspot, but have since migrated to Facebook. [via]

The reason for the season.

It’s maybe a little early yet for year’s end retrospectives, but who cares: we’ve got 157 songs, 10.5 hours, 1.12 GB of “some of the best and most notable music from 2010... covering indie, pop, rock, punk, folk, rap, R&B, soul, dance, country, modern classical, ambient and electronic music, and in many cases, hard-to-classify genre hybrids.” —Curated by FluxBlog’s own Matthew Perpetua.

Some people actually kiss while doing it.

Letkis is a Finnish dance. Oh, here’s the music. And here's the history. Some people (the French, of course) actually kiss while doing it. Many other nationalities have picked it up, like the Japanese and the Hungarians. Here's Finland's baddest rap group doing their take. But the clip that prompted me to delve into all this letkiss-ania in the first place, were these sharp Italian twins (via Schadenfreudian Therapy). [more inside]

Dancers, going about daily life

"I was thinking about the recession and what that meant for talented people who may have lost their jobs. Are you still a dancer if you are not paid to perform? Or are you still a chef when you don't have a kitchen to cook in? It is about people who walk the streets with this incredible skill who could just advertise their ability any time they wanted. Dance is always a part of them and they are always dancers"
