Heather and Derek are suddenly out of JPG Magazine. Heather writes: "8020 has decided to rewrite the history of how JPG came into being, removing the original six issues from the site, and any mention of Derek and [me]."

Powazek on Metafilter Not sure if this has been posted before, but I just found it on a new sub-site of Communication Arts that appears to be more focussed on web design. Derek is writing a book on online communities, but I still got the impression that the interviewer didn't know who he was.

Not to extend his 15 minutes of infamy, but, he has a story to tell. Just hear him out.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Derek has left the building. While I have been amused by reading the life of Derek Powazek, once and a while, I think he has made a sound decision. I really appreciate his last question, who is a blog for?
Reminds me of the first question from my Journalism 101 professor: "Is art for art's sake?"

Shiver me timbers... Derek P becomes a Pyrate. That "Meet the Beatles" cover will soon need to be replaced with one from Sly and the Family Web. Or Treasure Island.
But good luck, and a very happy birthday for tomorrow... and if anyone even mentions the word beginning with C and rhyming with "babble", terminate with extreme prejudice.

Derek Powazek on Webbieworld:
'[mc]: If you were starting to build a site right now with an unlimited budget, who would you ask to be on your team?'
'[dp]: Dream team? Michael Sippey on the business end, the Pyra gang doing the coding, Lance as the voice, Betty as mistress of misinformation, and those k10k baddies pushing pixels. Whoa, baby. I think my mouth just watered.'
Obvious question - who would your 'dream team' be?

Wow, The Fray is being featured on Adobe's site, congrats to Derek. I find this quote from the review kind of funny: 'Literary ability may not be crucial to getting a story published on the Fray, but honesty is.' I've always thought the stories were very well written, guess I'm worse of a writer than I thought.

Derek put some photos from the Fray Day online, and is working on getting the audio together. In the meantime, enjoy a picture of me at the festivities (I'm the guy walking towards the left in between the two people looking at the small house). My favorite image and memory from the Fray Day is this, the caption says it all.
