The premise of HBO's hour-long special "Talking Funny" [Part 2, 3, 4] is simple: invite four top-ranked comedians — Ricky Gervais, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Louis C.K. — turn on the cameras, and let them talk shop for an hour. There are laughs, of course, but the most interesting parts focus on the technical craft of getting those laughs. Michael Bierut didn't tune in looking for lessons for designers, but he found seven. It's rare to find a blog where you want to grab every picture, and click every link, but that's how it is at wonderful little mwebi, and just a few clicks there leads to these other just as tantalizing micro blogs, such as The Year in Pictures, Kitschy Living, Poculum, Cool Pictures, Colorfullthings, Design Squish and Fade Away (which has a bit of a squishy design). It leaves one wondering out loud, when did blogging get cool again?

Rashomon ... I thought about posting a link to the distinctive art style of Sam Weber, or the 25 greatest comic book covers ever made, or avante-garde Hungarian photographer László Moholy-Nagy, or this collection of Russian and Ukrainian posters--but instead, I decided to tell you all about the site where I found every one of these links: Rashomon, a new and (thus-far) consistently interesting collection of interesting visual arts links.

Gender bias? Priority problems? The drab wallpaper of the book world? These may be the least of problems for a new NYTBR editor. Times executive editor Bill Keller wants far worse. Keller plans to favor non-fiction and potboilers over literary fiction. Sayeth Keller, "I love that Chip championed first novels. But why take up 800 words when a paragraph will do?"

Dave Winer's not happy about the fact that people are tweaking the orange XML icon used to link RSS/RDF feeds. You've seen that orange button saying XML at various sites, including MeFi. Milo just put up one saying RSS instead of XML, which was based on a point brought up by xiffix, "In hindsight, appropriating the global acronym XML for this narrow use was a mistake. The button should say RSS. Hopefully, people will take Dave’s suggestion to do something completely different to heart and abandon the Userland attempt at a standard icon"
