Disney to destroy EU* (*Expanded Universe)

While JJ Abrams finishes off the script for Star Wars VII, Disney and the Lucasfilm Story Group are busily deciding what is canon and what isn't. Lee Hutchinson at Arts Technica thinks cutting out the Expanded Universe and starting again is a good idea. Stuart Ian Burns at Feeling Listless isn't so sure. [more inside]

Adding to the widely reported speculation that Chiwetel Ejiofor is joining the cast, the BBC is reporting that open auditions for two of the lead roles in the next Star Wars film are being held across Britain and Ireland in the next few weeks. Shooting is still slated to start in January. The audition call tweet gives details of the roles... [more inside]

The Last Vestiges of the Old Republic...

The Clone Wars (previously) are over, with only a few last mopping up operations underway and a few Jedi unaccounted for. But there is another... Star Wars Rebels will be the new Lucasfilm animated series, and will be taking it's design direction from the work of Ralph McQuarrie.

Right about now you're thinking, "I have a bad feeling about this..."

Each year in May and June, the Disney Hollywood Studios theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort holds a "Star Wars Weekends" festival. The days conclude with "Snig and Oopla's Hyperspace Hoopla" and Star Wars characters competing against each other in a dance competition. [more inside]

The 80s called, they want their Star Wars and Disney back.

Around this time in 1982, "The Wonderful World of Disney" on CBS aired Disney's Halloween Treat. In February of '83, a pre-special-edition Star Wars debuted on HBO. Later that year, what used to be known as the Disney Channel went on the air. Then in '84, Star Wars made its network debut on CBS, which included a short introduction ("We've seen Star Wars 324 times!"). [more inside]
