Freaky Friday Flash Fun, Flatting Flies:
Insectonator is a top-down shooter. Well, "shooter" is a stretch; this is more of "stomp, drop things, overkill with naplam" attack on pretty much every homeowner's nightmare: a bunch of crawly bugs in the dark that avoid the flashlight.
The bugs don't shoot back, so the game is just an endurance test by the player. And there are two awards for actually sticking around long enough. Weapons include a rock, your boot, various guns (including sniper rifles), rocket launchers, an anvil, naplam, and finally, a nuclear weapon.

In
Starcom, a space-based action adventure game, you pilot a starship defending the galaxy from an encroaching enemy invasion with an increasingly powerful array of armaments and technologies. It's a hell of a lot of fun, so play and enjoy!

Happy Birthday, MeFi, here's a fun free* game!
Ikariam is sort of like a Skyrates version of Civ, with the real-time MMO combat and diplomacy that might bring to mind. Also, it's set in Olympian Greece, but only kind-of. Enjoy!
*Batteries not included. Some registration required. Suggested age: 8-and-up. Some implied violence and consumption of alcohol (wine). Expansion materials may be purchased but are not necessary to enjoy the game and are, by the judgment of this MFGA (MetaFilter Gaming Authority) member: "some kind of bullshit."

Fun Flash Friday:
Throw Me - throw the little guy as far as you can. Avoid the thunderclouds. Use the wrecking balls and colored clouds for an extra boost. Simple as that.

Chromatron 1, 2, 3 and 4 just became freeware. In these little standalone puzzle games for PC and Mac, you align splitters, benders, and mirrors to direct colored laserbeams into like-colored targets. Enjoyably difficult, and an example of great game design.

Get Hostile! - Inspired by the well-beloved Avalon Hill board game
Acquire, Get Hostile! is a free, web-based board game that has already sucked up hours of my time. Check out the quick tutorial to get up to speed, then play against live opponents or AI's, forming corporations, buying stock, and doing hostile takeovers!

Fuzetsu Fire bullets by manuevering your pixel as close as possible to the shots fired by the enemy in the center. Requires Java Runtime Environment.
(Since there's no sound, here's a sharity blog whose music would provide an excellent soundtrack:
Curved Air.)

Triglav. It's fun, it's gorgeous, it's PC and Internet Explorer only.
It's also unstable as all hell, so play career mode unless you don't mind restarting your whole game frustratingly often.
DHTML gaming at its finest.
(from the always excellent
jayisgames, which is having a fantastic week).
Triglav was
previously mentioned but was as of then unfinished. If you're already hip to it, play
meteor busters instead.

Peekaboom! It's not Friday -- then again this isn't flash -- but it sure is fun. Partner with another anonymous player to identify pictures by gradually revealing them. The kicker is that as we play, the system gets smarter -- the goal is to teach computers how to identify photos the same way we can.

It's time to play "Friend or Foe" --from RawStoryQ.
We’ve covered over the lettering on five newsphotos. We’ll give you four possible answers (2 friend, 2 foe). Look at the photo and then click on the link below the photo that matches what you think we’ve hidden in the picture. Really hard, and there's a lesson in there somewhere, too.
