"A look at the average number of page views per title reveals that Microsoft gets about half as many page views per title as compared to Google and Apple" a strong indication of where reader interest actually resides." - ZDNet. Intelliseek's Blogpulse reveals similar numbers: #1 Google: 473K, #2 Apple: 381K, #3 Microsoft: 262K. Venture capitalist, Ed Sim, says: "While the OS is important, Microsoft has lost its complete and utter dominance as we move to a service-oriented world where broadband is everywhere, apps are in the cloud, and the browser becomes king."

Google Blocks Abu Ghraib Images
I went to Google Images to search for it. "Abu Ghraib" brought up only photos of the outside of the prison. Not a single photo from the scandal. Next I searched for "Lynndie England", not a single picture. Next I decided to look for "Charles Graner" her boyfriend who was also prominently features in the pictures, nothing.
See for yourself.

Not to touch on politics, but I found this particularly striking example of how Google News can reveal a dimension of 'news' that can be difficult to observe.

Today's entry on the Google blog was altered in a subtle way. The earlier entry boasted of their Bangalore data center, but the afternoon's version now features the Zurich center more prominently and relegates Bangalore to a footnote. Could it be that the company is a little less boastful in their handling of the outsourcing debate than they thought they could be?

Spears Reigns Again on Internet . Lycos, America Online and Yahoo! all have their top ten of '03 lists out. Google Zeitgeist wasn't mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter Article, but it's always worth a look.

Messaging ogling Google lobby [clip]
"At Google's headquarters off Highway 101 in Mountain View, visitors
sit in the lobby, transfixed by the words scrolling by on the wall:"
[/endclip]
[clip]
So anyway...
I thought to actually *message* the viewers with -
I hope you Google-ites get a good kick out of searches!
- no quotes.
[/endclip]
Results?
Do it, Me-Fi!

Linking to hate. Do links to hate-filled websites
help to promote hatred or do they help to combat hate by exposing these sites to broader scrutiny? How does Google fit into the picture? (No direct links to hate groups)

People continually invent new games to play with Google and Amazon.com to find curious content and excercise the system. First there was Google Whacking (here and here).
Then there was Google fighting,
Google sets,
Google image whacking,
Google Bombing,
Google Grokking,
Amazon whacking, and Google poetry.
What similar games have you played, invented, or enjoyed?

What is this? Why is Google licensing Dilbert for their banner? Compared to the subtle holiday theme banners they do, this just seems....tone-deaf.

God gets nuked. Do a Google search for God and what comes up first... PHP-Nuke of all things. As the always eloquent John Hiler points out on Microcontent News, this has got to be the ultimate, albeit unintentional, Google bomb.

Amazon spamming search engines? Looking around for reviews on Cooper tires, I came across 2 links in the top 20 search results on Google for sites that look legitimate, but are actually redirect pages to Amazon.com (which doesn't even sell auto tires!). What's going on here? Since when is it legitimate for large corporations to spam search engines!??

Google told me it was Monet's Birthday. Not only is it a pretty link-worthy event, but Google again created an artsy banner to go along with a holiday. Does anybody have a cache of their special occasion banners?

What you get when you type "something strange and different" into Google Am I the only person who bangs random words into Google to see what comes back? In this case I feel rewarded - bizarre patents from around the world. What's your favourite Google query string?

It's become second nature for many of us to head straight to Google when trying to find something, and more people seem to be discovering the site all the time. These days, savvy New Yorkers are Googling for love.

Vive Le Google! ...or maybe "Viva La Google" or something...
I don't think I've seen Google use their logo to celebrate a non-American holiday before. Will we get holidays from around the world now? Can we expect a glorious logo for St. Swithin's Day? Where will it end????
