Come on down to Funk Junction, we've got it all!
Songs about cats, songs about
orange things, songs about
dolls, and songs about
Canada! We have
IDM,
jungle,
breakcore, and
harsh noise! Do you like
jazz and
modern classical music? Great! We've got that, too,
chopped up and
re-arranged for easy digestion!
A whole world of sound, created by Aaron Funk! A veritable city of
Venetian Snares! And we have a biography, too, after the break (or you can skip the background, and go directly to
the streaming music). Please note that kids should probably stay outside the Funk Junction, as it'll get
loud, angry and obscene at times.

Happy belated 39th birthday,
Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo Tobin, or as most folks call you, simply
Amon Tobin. The Brazilian-born producer
first released music as Cujo, and has since moved on to his own name, with
five albums and a slew of EPs and singles released since 1997,
plus two video game
soundtracks, and
a film soundtrack. He also has
an EP of collaborations, side projects with
Joe "Doubleclick" Chapman as
60hz and
Two Fingers. And that's the overview ... (music samples a-plenty inside, or you could skip the chatter and
listen to much of Amon Tobin's discography streaming on his website).

"Skin painted bright red, heads partially shaved, arrows drawn back in the longbows and aimed square at the aircraft buzzing overhead. The gesture is unmistakable: Stay Away. The apparent aggression shown by these people is quite understandable, for they are members of one of Earth's last uncontacted tribes." [more inside]

My current brand new favorite is the very diverse and well-versed Detriot/Chicago techno stylings of DJ

Peruvian Gothic. "Don Benigno Aazco carved his way 36 years deep into the green heart of the Andean forest, founded 14 settlements, abandoned his wife and many children, married his daughter, slew his son-in-law, fought drug peddlers, tamed the wilderness, and reclaimed, as best he could, the Inca Empire. And now I was going to find him." [

When Henri met Pablo. Wandering through the rue des Martyrs in 1908, Picasso stopped beside an upholstery shop. "A head peered out, the face of a woman, hard eyes, a penetrating look, decisiveness and clarity. The canvas was huge. I enquired about the price. 'A hundred sous,' replied the dealer. 'You can paint over it.' It was one of the truest portraits ever of the French psyche."
Henri Rousseau's five-franc, life-size woman in Van Dyck black stayed at Picasso's side until his death, longer than any flesh-and-blood muse.
A century later, she towers over us at
Tate Modern's Rousseau retrospective as imperiously as a Velázquez monarch. More inside.

Animals thought extinct found in remote Cambodian jungle: British scientists have found a wilderness in the Cardamom region of Cambodia where exotic species, some though to be
extinct, have been found. These include the Siamese
crocodile, the wolf snake (a new species so named because of
its dog-like fangs), large populations of tigers and Asian
elephants, and the gower, a forest cow. Ironically, the habitat was protected from significant human
intrusion because it was a longtime Khmer Rouge stronghold
and also because routes lead to and from it are landmined.
