ANSI art gets the respect it is due. On January 12th, 2008, ACiD Productions produced an art show of legendary MS-DOS artists Somms and Lord Jazz. Their digital art was turned into hangable pieces using home-brew scrollable LCD light boxes hung on the gallery walls. [more inside]

High Dynamic Range (HDR) imagery rendered in software is only half the story if your monitor can't actually display that full dynamic range.
Bit-Tech has an excellent article on an actual HDR-capable display brought out by a crowd called Brightside Technologies (formerly Sunnybrook Technologies).
Needless to say, you want this. And it can be had, for the bargain price of $50000 USD.
Here's more on various HDR Display technologies. Brightside HDR is also covered at HardwareSecrets and Toms Hardware Guide. The Max Planck Institut has their take on HDR, Hyperfocal Design has a few good links if you're interested in trying your own hand at HDR content creation, and here's Brightside's own take on HDR and gaming.

Sharp's Dual View LCD Picture in picture isn't new but, by using a parallax barrier superimposed on the LCD, the Sharp Dual View LCD displays two full screen images (Yahoo jpg) simultaneously, you see one or the other depending on your viewing angle.
This could be the end of the battle for the remote control. And no word on the conniptions something like this would give to a PVR.

A new usage for Palm OS PDAs. Cant dish out for a matrix orbital LCD display? You can still have the awesomeness of a small display telling you vital cpu load, ram usage and winamp info via a palm pilot. Emulates a matrix orbital screen and can work with palms thru serial, USB, even bluetooth! (Project no longer maintained, maybe one of ya's can take it over and fix it so it works for my cheap zire!)
