HINDSIGHT IS ALWAYS 20/20 is an information art piece. Artist/composer R. Luke DuBois [previously] manipulated the text of individual State of the Union addresses from each presidency, sorting the words according to frequency of use, to generate a Snellen eye chart for each President. Frequent words appear in larger text at the top, less frequent words in decreasing size towards the bottom. The 66-member word lists . . . are designed to draw out the most unique and contemporary vocabulary used by the president in his speeches. . . words that are not only important in a given presidency, but also au courant in terms of lexicon and contemporary context. The aim of the piece is to make a statement about the perennial political metaphor of vision. . . The choice of words employed by a given presidential administration to articulate its message is in many ways its signature. Hint: There's a menu along the bottom, but you can just click in the middle of each chart to move on to the next.

Not literate analysis. Not a fresh insight into a perennial problem ransacking the world. Not an obituary. But ... well ... Chewbacca dancing with a Jawa to "Footloose", Leia singing to Padme that "mommy dear, girls just want to have fun" (with a Gamorrean Guard with a red-haired fright wig), and were I to tell you the third ... ... that'd spoil it, but suffice it to say the heavy breathing's well-suited to that number. Then, next up, we have the prior year, where a pair of star-crossed siblings who oddly give off a Donny & Marie-type vibe, and a couple of exes meet up and sound off. And if you've chafed at your childhood memories being ransacked in such an amateur fashion, then have them professionally assassinated by LucasFilm in CGI. If you need an antacid after all that, this really isn't half-bad (it really needs to be seen larger for the scale of it, but that link's a download). (And here's a few more antacids.)

Casual fans of Irish folk-punk bands like The Pogues, Flogging Molly and the Dropkick Murphys rarely take the time to investigate the sources of their inspiration. Those who do, cannot avoid coming across the The Dubliners. Although the band has undergone many personnel changes during the last 45 years, but there's a sizeable contingent of fans feel that The Dubliners lost a sizeable chunk of their magic in 1984 following the death of banjo player and vocalist, Luke Kelly. Anyone interested in exploring Luke Kelly's life and work might check out the YouTube posts of superfan kellyoneill, or alternatively, the recent documentary, Luke Kelly: The Performer

It's Hazzardgate! While Dukes Fest '07 is still set to go off without a hitch, John Schneider and Tom Wopat have apparently been blacklisted from their scheduled July 14th appearance at the Cincinatti Pops after the local NAACP branch complained about the original tv show's "racist overtones." But of course the big questions are... what does Cooter think about it all? How will the Hazzard fans cope? And what about the Ukes of Hazzard? Are they involved? Boss Hogg remains silent on the issue.
