Elevator: Source is a Half-Life 2 mod which puts the player on an elevator that visits a number of strange floors. It requires Gary's Mod and HL2:Ep2, but you can sample the experience with this gameplay video.

ROM hacking, the act of modifying the "cartridge" data for a video game played in an emulator, has been covered before (and before). What you may not know is that intrepid hackers have been at work on more modern systems, producing a wide array of new takes on old classics. New worlds for Mario to explore (also, also, also). A new adventure for Link. Goldeneye levels that are a bit... different. A whole new universe of classes and challenges in Final Fantasy Tactics (gameplay). Greig Stewart, aka ThereminHero, began posting videos of video game song covers made on the theremin shortly after he started playing the theremin in 2008. That's small beans, as theremin covers (prev), even video game covers, are plentiful. OK, how about performing the vocals in Rock Band on the theremin (plus an OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator for overdrive and hand claps)? Korsakovia is a Half Life 2 mod from research driven developer The Chinese Room. It melds the abstract driven story of their previous mod, Dear Esther (previously), with more traditional gameplay. The end result is an equally distinctive horror FPS with minimal narrative cues. [more inside]

"The purpose of this mod is to add back into the game all the content that was originally planned by the Fallout 2 devs." Over the last 2 years an industrious chap has "gone through almost all the text files and scripts and compiled a list of what appears to have been pulled from the game," in order to restore it to it's originally intended glory and now his work is complete.
