Despite it's iconic stature and popularity, it hasn't been seen in it's complete form since it was released in Germany in 1927, and even after an <a href="http://www.alpha-omega.de/English/E_metropolis.html">extensive restoration</a> in 2001, over 90 minutes was thought to be lost for good. While the rediscovered footage will clearly need a tremendous amount of restoration, some images have <a href="http://www.zeit.de/online/2008/27/bg-metropolis-en">been released</a>.
