Monkey Glands

Monkey glands. More monkey glands. Monkey glands ahoy. More glands than you can shake a monkey at. More fun than a barrel of monkey glands.

Best Friend of the King of the Apes

He's 74-years-old, which makes him the world's oldest primate. He was a movie star. He lives a comfortable life as an older retiree. In his spare time, he paints. In fact, if you like, he will paint a painting just for you, and the money you donate for it supports his primate sanctuary. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Cheeta.

Happy Friday

Orangutwang is a simple Flash game about a stretchy monkey (sadly, the monkey does not play banjo). Don't touch the spiders!

Monkey magic, Monkey magic. Ooh!

The punkiest Monkey that ever popped from an egg on a mountain top, the one and only Monkey from cult Japanese TV series Monkey Magic, is finally coming back to our TV screens after a 30 year absence. Monkey will be played in the new series by Shingo Katori and even with blonde hair, in the role of Monkey he will no doubt tease the Gods and everyone and, presumably, have some fun while he's at it.

Happy Thanksgiving. Here is a gallery of photos of monkeys dressed as jockeys, riding other non-monkey animals.

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle...

The Human Zoo exhibit at the London Zoo aims to "demonstrate the basic nature of man as an animal and examine the impact that Homo sapiens have on the rest of the animal kingdom." The public takes part in the display (fig leaves required). "Over four days the 'animals' will be cared for by the zoo's keepers and 'kept entertained through various forms of enrichment...'" There are even some photos of them monkeying around.

Get to know your monkeysphere.

Inside the Monkeysphere. Knowing about it could help the world make sense. Or maybe not. At least it's an entertaining read!

Curious George Escapes the Nazis

Curious George Escapes the Nazis. A true story from a neat little exhibit about the life and work of H.A. and Margret Rey, German Jews who fled Paris on bicycle (with the unpublished Curious George manuscript as one of their few possessions) hours before the Nazis arrived. Lots of info, including Curious George's first appearance, Hans' famous book on astronomy, notes on the couple's lesser-known work and more.

Sometimes getting your car back is simply not enough.

Friday Fun! It's good to see a local advertiser with the guts to go for a "funny" ad campaign. I imagine these get a good response. If I lived in Oregon, this place would get my business (well, if they sold Hondas). Viva la Trunk Monkey!

Cinco de Mayo, monkey style! Queso, guacamole and nachos, and fun ways to celebrate the Mexican holiday with your favorite terrycloth primate. Also, a little dueling Kahlo haiku for good measure. Viva de Cinco de Mayo!! Ay yiy yiy!!

Monkey Business

Monkeys down tools. - Demand fair pay for a fair day's work. " Researchers taught brown capuchin monkeys to swap tokens for food. Usually they were happy to exchange this "money" for cucumber. But if they saw another monkey getting a grape - a more-liked food - they took offence. Some refused to work, others took the food and refused to eat it. "

Monkeyfilter!

I'll say it: It's time someone did something about the Monkeys. Over the last two years they have established a clear cut pattern of terror & harassment in countries ranging from Eastern India, Jakarta, Tokyo, Sri Lanka or New Dehli, and the fact remains that it's only a matter of time before these crazed foreign monkeys make their way to places I could actually find on a map, or possibly even America, (possibly in this guy's pants). When they come, and they will, will our leaders protect us from their savage rampage? Or is it too late - are they already among us?!?

The Journey to the West

The Journey to the West is one of China's most popular literary classics. This site illustrates one section of this important story, the birth of the Monkey King, with 100 beautiful images. You can also take the time to read selections from several other Chinese classics, notably The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, The Tale of the Water Margin and one of my all time favorites, The Romance of the Western Chamber. These works, and others on the site, are important in their own right, but are also significant because they are source material for Chinese film, TV and especially for Jingju, which Westerners call Beijing opera.

Monkeys rescued an orphaned member of their troop from an Indian police station after its mother was shot dead. The baby monkey breastfeeding the mother wouldn't let go of its dead mother. Police took the body to their station, and that night, 30 monkeys laid siege to the station and took the baby away with them. (from VeganPorn)

Unable to believe this story on the Drudge Report, I did some searching and discovered that Kopi Luwak is not only the rarest and most expensive coffee in the world, but also possesses the greatest potential for comical logos.

Bush or Chimp closes shop.

Bush or Chimp closes shop. Another stalwart anti-Bush site has folded in light of recent events. The irreverent bushorchimp.com, dedicated to visual comparisons of the President and various look-alike primates has closed down. I understand that we're in the midst of a crisis, but is Bush now beyond criticism? Ok, maybe pictures that compare Bush to monkeys aren't exactly thoughtful criticism... Still, NOW where am I going to get novelty t-shirts for friends and family this Xmas?

Hi! Monkey!

Hi! Monkey! is one of the funniest, cutest sites I've seen in a long time. I was really surprised it hadn't been 'filtered before (correct me if I'm wrong). If you need a little break in your day for something goofy, it's a good place to turn. Personal fave: the pictures of him going Trick-or-Treating...
