During expeditions over the next three decades he <a href="http://pratyeka.org/rock/">photographed</a> <a href="http://memory.loc.gov/service/pnp/cph/3c20000/3c20000/3c20200/3c20237v.jpg">shamans</a>, <a href="http://ids.lib.harvard.edu/ids/view/245434" title="Young reincarnation of the abbot of Labrang">trulku</a>, <a href="http://ids.lib.harvard.edu/ids/view/245402">petty kings</a>, <a href="http://ids.lib.harvard.edu/ids/view/245400">nomads</a>, astounding scenery and flora and fauna across much of southwest China. He also studied the <a href="http://international.loc.gov/intldl/naxihtml/rock.html">language and culture</a> of the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakhi">Nakhi</a> people <small><a href="http://www.metafilter.com/47897/Naxi-Language">previously</a></small>whose homeleand centred around Lijiang.
