More and more authors are turning to podcasting to find their audiences after being rejected by traditional book publishers, it seems. Interested in hearing some of their stories for free (or if you're feeling generous, a suggested donation of $9.99)? Check out PodioBooks, where there's a tonne of free literature just waiting to be downloaded to your iPod.

The popularity of podcasting has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year. Evan Williams, co-founder and former CEO of
Pyra Labs, the makers of Blogger, is a co-founder of Odeo, a resource for podcast listeners and
podcasters. More info here. Odeo is
just one of many podcast directories; personally, my favorite is Podcast Pickle. Another great resource
for audio content is PodioBooks.com,
founded by Evo Terra. PodioBooks are serialized
audio books which are made available in podcast format, many read by their
authors. [more inside]

Is your podcast being hijacked? The nature of RSS and podcast content makes it really easy for somebody to create new feeds based on somebody else's content and pass it off as the original through directories like Yahoo's or iTunes; then, of course, they potentially add advertising or use the built-up audience to extort the original podcaster. Podkeyword, the organization that has sparked concern about the issue, says they're not doing anything illegal or unethical; correspondence between Podkeyword and the guy whose podcast is at issue is available. [First pass legal take here, potential third-party retribution here; via.]

Latin Podcasting is now available featuring recordings of neo-Latin colloquia saved as mp3 files. From Willard McCarty on the Humanist Discussion List: "So far there's only the Prima Salutatio of 3 minutes 21 seconds, but more is promised." They've already registered the project with the iTunes Podcast Directory and Bloglines. Future plans include adding captions.

Research finds that 87% of internet users are unfamiliar with "podcasting" and 91% have never heard of "RSS". The study by the Pew Internet and American Life Project also found that only 3% of users still don't know what spam is. Here's a PDF of the findings.

While some squabble over who is the “Father of Podcasting” (see “Bickering among the 'Pod Squad’ : Who is the 'Podfather"? And who cares?”), Seth Godin suggests that now is the time to start podcasting: “If your goal is to be an A list podcaster, today's the day to start. And invest. And persist.”
On his blog at MSNBC Will Femia states: “Speaking of shark jumping, ABC News kicks off the mainstreaming of podcasting.”
Is podcasting a “fad”, or likely a future mainstay in modern media?

Sounds Like Radio "casting you the best in new music; transcending oppressive style and genre restrictions; unleashing the world's musical underground". Sort of a music blog, presented as radio shows. There's all kinds of interesting music here, from all kinds of genres, most-all from unsigned acts. Surprisingly varied, and good.
