Or maybe that should be past tense, as Orange County police have arrested him for drug possession, apparently over the hemp oil in his soap bottle. The weather just got a lot more accessible. The National Weather Service's weather data is now freely available in XML format for SOAP clients; it had previously been only available through commercial providers or in a difficult-to-decipher format. Not knowing anything about web services, I'm not sure about the implications, but I imagine that anyone who knows their SOAP could build their own weather app really easily.

Some pig! In September, a Cincinnati artist carved a pig with wings...out of 7,000 pounds of Ivory soap. (It was commissioned by the chamber of commerce for an economic conference.) Now "Sudsie" is being sent on tour to Nicaragua to promote a kids' handwashing campaign.

I know, what's the big deal about a shower radio with a soap dispenser built in? Check it out. Or check out the Google Translation, I'm still wondering what an insertable antenna is? And where does the soap come out?
Any chance this could be marketed in the States? Or would the Sex-is-Baaaaaaad people have conniptions? Wouldn't it be worth it to watch?

What ever happened to soap carving? Soap carving has been around a long time, and is often quite beautiful, detailed or arresting. Still, it's surprising how often it's still suggested as a fun activity for kids, despite the involvement of sharp utensils. For more than 25 years, Ivory soap ran a national soap-carving contest as a public relations stunt created by the father of PR, Edward L. Bernays.

Buy some dish soap, save wildlife! Dawn dish soap's new campaign shows images of a duck (simulated?) covered in oil like something out of the Exxon Valdez oil spill, followed by images of workers washing the duck's feathers with Dawn soap, and testifying how they only use Dawn for this process. Interesting thought process, but is it too far from the point for the average shopper? (saveaduck.com is the original URL)

Amazon Light is project powered by amazon's SOAP API, with a design and interaction reminiscent of Google's clean no-frills approach. Pretty cool and clean way to use the site (without annoying popups or gold box offers).

Soap Reviews Lengthy, detailed, wierd reviews by David Lynch (not the director). Excerpt: All that was left was the test of Lux's cleaning power. I wrote "Pronto" on my hand with a Scripto Super Stic med. pt. pen, and proceeded to vigorously scrub my hands under warm water. It took me a whole 1 minute and 19 seconds to completely remove all traces of ink from my palm. This is substandard cleaning performance for a soap, and I was somewhat disappointed by this poor showing. That said, I was impressed by the thick yet bubbly lather that was formed while lathering.

Dave Winer offers us 2 views of the scripting world in 2005. He says that 'in one view, we are all inside Microsoft's box, sharing a common set of libraries and object hierarchies. In the other, we use our favourite tools and runtimes, our communities stay independent.' Frighteningly, he may well be absolutely right. What a great diagram; it reminds me of drawing when I was a kid.
