"Here’s what was off-limits, according to many of the people I grew up with: books about witchcraft, the writings of Anton LaVey, Ouija boards, New Age crystals, pentagrams, albums with backward masking, and the music of most heavy-metal bands. ... Yet here’s what was okay to enjoy, according to those same chums and acquaintances: The Omen. The Amityville Horror. Rosemary’s Baby. The Exorcist
. These movies passed muster because they didn’t encourage people to dabble in the dark arts; they warned
people." The Exorcist And The South's Love Of Devil Movies.

In the summer of 1897, the Devil transported a minor Decadent poet
named Enoch Soames one hundred years into the future to see what posterity would make of his work
. The only witness to the affair was the parodist Max Beerbohm
, whose account
of Soames and his journey ensured that at 2:10 P.M. on June 7, 1997, some dozen pilgrims waited in the Round Reading Room of the British Museum to see the poet appear

Christs, Communists, & Rock 'n' Roll
is an excellent introduction to a tradition of anti-rock writings and recordings by the Religious Right. In the 1960s, there was David Noebel
who wrote Communism, Hypnotism, & the Beatles
and The Marxist Minstrels
. In the early 1970s, Reverend Riblett
constructs a seven-foot cross out of rock music records and sets it aflame with gasoline. Michael Mills finds hidden Satanic messages
in Bow Wow Wow and the Grateful Dead, while Bob Larson valiantly debates
Mandy, a 13-year-old fan of the Cure. The motherlode is probably the cassettes of John Todd
, who traveled the fundamentalist circuit in the 1970s claiming to be a former witch and a member of the Illuminati, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. (more inside)

Meet The Press--in Hell
with Jesus, Satan, Coulter, Malkin--... Russert: We’re back with our guests, Bob Satan and Jesus Christ, and our panel Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter. Ann, I’d like to read you a statement by the Virgin Mary, Chairwoman of Mothers Against Armageddon—
Ann Coulter: Oh please. This broad is a millionaire, lionized on frescoes and in scripture about her, reveling in her status as a saint, and stalked by Madonna-parazzies. I have never seen a woman enjoying her son’s death so much. ...

Ceci Nes't Pas Une Satanic Message
• "Years ago someone told me that if you played Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven song backwards that you could make out 'satanic messages'. It is not my opinion that Led Zeppelin and the other artists here were given some kind of evil power to make these backwards sounds have a satanic message. And, no, I did not create this to show the evils of Rock and Roll. Instead I made this flash piece for two reasons: 1. I was new to Flash and wanted to be better at it and 2. The reverse files sound cool. "

High school Satanism club prompts parental outrage
some kids in a high school start a club called Satanist Thought Society. As expected, everybody gets offended, especially the Christian Society. It can be argued, though, that the the Satanist Society has as much right to exist as the Christian Society. Is this just a 1st ammendment issue or is there a moral question to be thought out? Remember that Florida Mayor who banned Satan from town?
Well, after she got done talking to mass-media syncophants like Dan Rather, her utterly misguided publicist apparently let her talk to the keen and incisive sleuths from Satanosphere
, who, as usual, got down to the really important stuff. Like:
matt: ...The one question everybody has for you is this: Are you planning on banning any other major deities or demons? Like Skeletor?
So, will Skeletor
be banned forever from Inglis, Florida? Will the ACLU extend Skeletor
the same legal protection as it graciously offered Satan? And perhaps most important of all, what about Wil Wheaton
