American Elf is a daily diary comic by James Kochalka. The latest strip is always free but the archives are subscription only. He also a musician, his most famous song being
Hockey Monkey, and he has number of songs up for free on his site.
[via Eddie Campbell who says: "Beginning in 1998 Kochalka took the form of daily strip and imbued it with a life that has been missing from it for a long time. Since then he has made sure his daily round is not finished until a strip is done. Another thing I like about it is the way he carefully avoids any taint of 'continuity'. There is no story here, just the eternal incidentalness of life as it is lived."]

Check out this map of
The Simpson's hometown of Springfield. We may never know what state the town is located in, and yes, the show has sucked for at least six years now (if not more) but this map was considered to be so good, it was, apparently, added to the
Harvard Map collection. Comic Book Guy would be proud.

Glossophobia aka
Lalophobia or, more commonly,
stage fright is allegedly the
biggest fear for Americans. If you experience it, you are hardly alone. Many well known performers, including
Sir Laurence Olivier,
Barbara Streisand,
Donnie Osmond,
Dusty Springfield and
Andy Partridge of XTC, share your fear. Indeed, all kinds of performers suffer from it,
including musicians,
jugglers, and
public speakers. Many
people have (sometimes contradictory)
advice about
overcoming your fear of
speaking in public. However, in a pinch, one can always use a
Beta Blocker. Drinking booze, however, is not frequently recomended.
