The Sun's page 3
has been featuring nude women since the 1970s. Last week the British newspaper teamed up with CoppaFeel
, a young charity for breast cancer awareness, to inspire women to touch their own breasts. The headline reads "Page 3 v breast cancer", next to a model in a pair of underpants who barely covers her breasts. Readers are encouraged to ‘Check ‘Em Tuesday’ and post pics on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #checkemtuesday.
While some applaud
the newspaper for putting an important women’s health issue on the front page, others are against the sexist representation of women
and concerned it could trivialize breast cancer
Not only due to the titillating images on page 3, The Sun's readership is still mostly male. So does this campaign exist for women?

"The snobbishness has struck me as irrational
. They want the end of Page 3, but claim to be "sex positive" and pro porn. It's as if pornography for the upper classes - tasteful monochrome Testino images of nudes, Mapplethorpe coffee table books or vintage Tom of Finland* prints are acceptable, yet accessible muck for the working classes is simply de trop. A catwalk show for a milliner featuring chilly looking models completely nude apart from the hat is applauded as high art: Sandra from Dagenham, in a pair of lacy pants, is not."

This past Saturday evening a woman dumped a rescue cat into a garbage bin on the side of a residential street in Coventry, U.K. Fifteen hours later owner Darryl Mann
: "I came down to feed Lola on Sunday morning but couldn’t find her anywhere. It was really hot day outside and I searched nearby alleyways but suddenly heard a tiny meowing coming from the bin. I looked inside and I found her in the bin, she was terrified and covered in her own mess....At first I thought she’d somehow climbed inside the bin herself but when I checked the CCTV
I was gobsmacked to see some a woman had done it deliberately." Mann posted the video to YouTube
in an effort to find the perpetrator. As a result, the woman was identified by this morning. [more inside]

"Make no mistake, if the Liberal Democrats actually won the election – or held the balance of power – it would be the first time in decades that Murdoch was locked out of British politics."
- David Yelland, former editor of Rupert Murdoch's The Sun, writes in The Guardian. [more inside]

A very well designed site on the Analemma
. Don't be scared off by the math, as there are excellent diagrams and quicktime movies on this difficult to visualize phenomena. Difficult, but not impossible, to photograph (probably less than 10 photos are in existence) Ulrich Bienert
came close, and has a gallery and some tips if you're so inclined.
