In this time of corrupt politics, police brutality, media dereliction, and increasingly vicious culture wars, there's perhaps no graphic novel more relevant today than the brilliant and blackly funny Transmetropolitan. SVK (Special Viewing Kit) is a collaboration between writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan, Planetary, Crooked Little Vein, RED), artist Matt "D'Israeli" Brooker (Stickleback, Lazarus Churchyard, 2000AD) and London-based design studio BERG. It's a comic that features hidden text that is revealed by the included UV flashlight thingy (and also, apparently, a foreword by William Gibson). (wired article)

The three-year run of FreakAngels, Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield's steampunk webcomic, will come to an end in late July. FreakAngels was (to my knowledge) the first ongoing webcomic by an established comic-book creator, and if his experiment with free online publishing is almost over, it seems to have been a successful one - Duffield's announcement of FreakAngels' impending conclusion mentions that "Warren and Avatar Press have more webcomics lined up for you." Earlier this week, Chris Sims asked why comics publishers aren't using the webcomic format to draw in new readers. Could Avatar's online expansion be the beginning of that movement? Previously.

Whitechapel, the Warren Ellis forum, remodels Superman #1, 2000AD Prog 1, Amazing Adult Fantasy #15, Young Romance #1, Zap Comix #1, Wonder Woman #1 and New Worlds #223. More remodel fun. Note that the good stuff tends to be towards the middle of a thread, where the artists have had time to get going and before things tail off.

"Global Frequency" is out. Many of you have likely heard of Warren Ellis, a prolific blogger and decent sci-fi comic writer. Turns out that WB turned his comic into a TV series, then shelved it before airing. Well, some dedicated souls got the pilot out for all of us. It's available now via Bit Torrent and is well worth watching.

He's done this before; once he asked us to show us the world with our cell phones, and once he asked us to send him video. (Start with those posts, and move forward, and dodge the messed up archives from August.) On the other hand, some people just want pictures of cats.
