While Adult Swim is generally regarded as the pioneer of irreverent short-form animation -- especially for 'toons that reimagine past hits -- it wasn't always the king. In fact, the late-night programming block arguably found its birth in a series of short toons and interstitials that ran in the heyday of its daytime alter ego, the venerable Cartoon Network. The brainchild of C.N. Creative Director Michael Ouweleen and Hanna-Barbera chief Fred Seibert, these cartoons reinterpreted the network's properties through stock footage, indie music, and original animation in a wide variety of styles, as well as introducing prototypes of characters that would become some of the most famous in the history of American animation. Intense debate about weighty issues like racism, abortion, and immigration... between animals in funny hats! This is the silly punditry of Scenario: Dog v. Cat: Round 1, round 2, round 3.

Unknown Hinson is the stage name of Stuart Daniel Baker. The persona is "dark parody of the country western stars from the early/mid 20th century." according to a Wikipedia entry. Playing this archetype his songs expose the often misogynistic, and violent life between the lines of "Old school country artists". [more inside]

Chrome Children, Volume 2. From the unlikely entertainment coalition of Stones Throw Records and Adult Swim ... the fine folks that brought you DangerDoom and Chrome Children, Volume 1 ... come sixteen glorious and eclectic tracks, each proving that hip-hop is alive, well and evolving. And you can have all sixteen for the low, low price of absolutely nothing.

If you keep doing that, you'll go blind. Watching TV late at night, that is. Cartoon Network has brought back Pee Wee's Playhouse. When CN announced plans to add Saved By The Bell to the Adult Swim roster, opinions were decidedly mixed. Hopefully, people will feel better about seeing Lawrence Fishburne dressed as a cowboy. Personally, I'm waiting for them to resurrect Krofft Superstars. (They actually had a giant puppet caller H.R. Pufnstuf. Ahh, the 70s.)

Tim Heidecker Gets stabbed (he's ok) Tim Heidecker, of TimandEric.com, co-creator of Tom Goes to the Mayor, (Adult Swim) and pal of Bob Odenkirk was stabbed by a kid on PCP last week. He wrote about the experience and included some neat photos on his blog. I couldn't find the police blotter.

First National Lampoon does a "parody" of the bumps on Cartoon Network's popular Adult Swim programming block. Then G4's Attack of the Show responded (and the editor of the Lampoon's site responds in the comments -- look for posts by JayPink), and then Adult Swim themselves did on Sunday (Flash re-creation of the aired bump). MC Chris is the pseudonym of Chris Ward, comedian, writer, and aspiring rap star. Most popular as the voice of Hesh on Sealab 2021, his site is a great little archive of silly (but good) songs, and improv comedy bits- some from his UCB Theater days with now-Daily Show reporter Ed Helms.

What Do 18-To 34-Year-Old Men want? Young men, it turns out, want to see superheroes arguing cases in court. They want giant fighting robots. They want talking French fries.
