Cattle Are Booming

Those wacky but socially responsible burrito pushers at Chipotle (previously, perviouser) are sponsoring a 'satirical' miniseries on Hulu, debuting February 17th: "Farmed and Dangerous" (official trailer) about a plan to make cattle feed from petroleum (fake website) and its unfortunate byproduct: exploding cows. Ray "Twin Peaks" Wise plays the obviously-evil PR guy in charge of damage control in this show "that explores the outrageously twisted and utterly unsustainable world of industrial agriculture." Opinionated much?

Not that "exploding cows" are a totally absurd concept. At a reportedly normal dairy farm in Germany, a herd of 90 cows were crowded into a farm shed when their cumulative flatulence was accidentally ignited by static electricity, damaging the roof and causing burns on ONE of the cows.

Our country is the whole world, and our law is liberty.

Accidental Death of An Anarchist is a 1983 television version of Belt & Braces Theatre Company's adaptation of Dario Fo's Morte accidentale di un anarchico, a satirical farce based on the real death in police custody of an Italian railway worker and and anarchist; featuring an entirely fictional Maniac invading a police station to expose police corruption and brutality. It contains more than traces of slapstick, Thatcher-era left-wing agitprop, terrible jokes, swearing, vigorous fourth-wall obliteration, great jokes, a fully-functional mock-up of a bomb (that is to say, a bomb), a musical number, a coffee break and a multiple-choice ending. Among other things. If you speak Italian, here is a presentation of an elderly Fo himself as the Maniac, for comparative purposes. If you don't speak Italian, you can still make the comparison, though somewhat less precisely. [more inside]

"Now, There Are Two Americas"

In 1964, Goldwater campaign strategist Clif White made a 28-minute long film called "Choice." Once Senator Goldwater saw it, it was never shown publicly. Now it's on YouTube! [more inside]

An invitation to rebellion, and your window to weight gain!

For China, yesterday marked the Mid-Autumn Festival, when Chinese at home and abroad gather to worship the Moon Rabbit, carry paper lanterns, and eat mooncakes. From its humble beginning as an agitprop-stuffed pastry, the mooncake has become a strong futures commodity in the People's Republic. Accordingly, authorities are stepping in; apparently everyone wants a piece of the pie cake.
