Take me out to the ball or blog game!! Slate has posted a good article on baseball blogs. Be you a Red Sox fan or a Cubs rube, you can follow your favorite boys of summer with in-depth Sabernomics articles or even track the next pre-injury Mark Prior through blogs. Some have been up for years, but they're increasing in popularity and some have even been picked up by major newspapers.

Want to listen to the World Series on the Web? Pay $9.95. I know, it's a sports post, so (most) everyone will hate it, but I see a disturbing trend of no more free media lunches on the Web. CNN went subscription months ago, and most other places I've gone for free video/audio are drying up. All I wanted was to listen to the game. But I can't find it anywhere. All the regular stations I listen to that carry the game are silent. And how will the Angels make a valiant comeback if I can't cheer them on? (sigh)

Baseball Players To Strike Out Aug 30th. Hooray, baseball's most honored tradition is coming back! Baseball strike August 30th unless players get a new collective bargaining agreement. Its like a fantastic step back in time, as baseball has had work stoppages a glorious eight times since 1972. How are you gonna spend the strike days/weeks/years/decades?

Commish or Capo? Commissioner of Baseball Bud Selig has been sued under the RICO Act for wire and mail fraud. The charge stems from his attempt at the contraction of two teams in Major League Baseball.

Mr. Selig can't seem to get a break from bad publicity. Does he deserve one?

High Standards, High Expectations For the Select Few ""We have three or four kids that need to be under control when they do something wrong," Ruben said. "The pressure isn't coming from the coaches. It's self-induced. That should be gone by now. When they are 7 or 8, you can chalk it up and say they are only 7 or 8. 'They are 10' doesn't wash anymore."" Somehow, some of us used to have fun playing baseball.

Obviously Bud Selig is lying to Congress. There's no way anyone believes that MLB lost $232 million last year despite attendance being up and quality being high. But the question is, what is the punishment for a man like Selig blatantly perjuring himself to our representatives? Can he go to jail?

Baseball player plans to start a forest. Stan Javier, of the Seattle Mariners, is retiring after this year. He and two contributors plan to spend $31 million dollars toward a forest of mahogany and teak trees to take up between 15,000 and 20,000 acres by the year 2003. They plan to harvest the trees for lumber, but the article suggests that the trees would be as crops much like a farmer harvests wheat and then replants. The potential for this idea gives me a feeling as warm and fuzzy as a marmoset.

Ceiling-Fan Baseball is surely going to be one of the most popular sports to sweep the nation. Just don't play it in a room with any fine china sets ;)

4/5 - "I'm loosening up my arm tonight. I don't want to bounce it in." 4/6 - Bush's first pitch a major league bust. Gee, I hope now we don't have to go to war to regain our mojo.
