"Sixteen-year-old Sabera, with a pretty yellow head scarf, frets that she is missing school. 'I was about to get engaged, and the boy came to ask me himself, before sending his parents. A lady in our neighbourhood saw us, and called the police,' she explains. She was sentenced to three years but, in an act of mercy, it was shortened to 18 months . . ."

After 6 years hiding in the hills, Illija Panincic
discovers that the war in Bosnia is over.
On
BBC
today he told how he fought his next door neighbour,
a bear, for the rights to the pear tree. I wonder how
long they will be hiding in the hills in Afghanistan.

Mullah Omar speaks to the people of Afghanistan and Muslims around the world. But
Voice of Shariat was destroyed in the bombing. So a tape of his speech was delivered to
Voice of America and the
BBC World Service, and
they both broadcast it.

There's mummies coming from Afghanistan said yesterday's
Horizon on the BBC. This is the story of a supposedly 2600 year old mummified Persian princess. It was put up for sale for $11 million, but turned out to be a fraud and possibly contains the remains of a woman murdered in 1996. The mummy was probably manufactured somewhere in the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region, well known these days....
