Almost all critics lists I have got my hand on, including best-of-year lists, best-of-all-times lists etc., from critics, artists and music industry people all over the world . . . How have the lists been compiled? This is really not simple to explain. Please do not despair if you do not fully understand... I have written a program which computes the lists. The basic idea is that I match all records against each other in pairs. In a match, each critics list is weighted depending on * the number of lists I have from different parts of world (USA, UK or the rest of the world) ** when the list was presented (newer lists are weighted more heavily) *** how many matches the list is a part of (a list which only embraces a few years is not part of many matches and is therefore weighted heavily in the matches where it is included).

Emilio Navaira is a Grammy-winning Tejano and country singer. Navaira's tour bus was traveling north along west 610 Loop near the Southwest Freeway when it crashed into a set of freeway barrels shortly before 4 a.m. He is clinging to life in a Houston hospital. His fans are praying for him. Doctors say he is now stable, but he faces a difficult recovery at best, and may never perform again. I hope with all my heart this does not become an obituary thread. This is a really big story for Tejano music fans. (It also appears Emilio was driving his own bus without a proper license, but maybe we don't need to argue about blame for the accident for now?) Eight other members of his tour were injured, some seriously.

The American Film Institute decided the need for ~~more money~~ an update to their 1998 list of the 100 Greatest Movies was so pressing that they made a new list. Ebert (and friends) ask where's Fargo?. The IHT wonders why the past decade has only spawned four new, worthy movies. And, generally, no one seems super excited about it.
