What did the Internet look like in 1996? "...very few web designers had even the most rudimentary of aesthetic sensibilities, and nearly half of them were clinically retarded."

Polite Dissent rings in the new year with the best and worst in comic book medicine from 2006. While this entertaining blog's subjects are not limited to four color minutiae, it is the source of some of the most entertaining posts. Please to enjoy Flatlining, Hippocrates, Originitis, and the scourge of a generation, Metal-Eating Disease!

Tired of the same old blogs with the same old links? Well, Mark Evanier may have come up with the future of blogging with There's No Such Website! It's a list of five weird websites with camouflaged links, and one is fake. Can you find the bogus site without having to visit all the real awful ones? Play here and here and here and here and here (holiday edition) and here and here and here and here and (whew!) here. Don't you wish all blog links had a chance of being nonexistent?

ThreadBared.com is the Go Fug Yourself of vintage sewing, knitting, crocheting, and crafting patterns. Some highlights: Lord of the Bellbottoms; behold the Golliwog; That Linebacker Look; Return to Traditional Values; You Should See His Ball Peen Hammer; Never EVER make fun of a man who is both wearing cableknit mittens and holding a shotgun.

Minor Tweaks. No biggie, it's just some guy's little blog, with some hit-or-miss funny stuff and a few running features that are vaguely reminiscent of McSweeney's. The Ikea Dialogues and the Coke Dialogue are worth a chuckle. Note: Anna and Hank really do talk like that; I encourage you to go and harrass them (click "Ask Anna") yourselves. Start by asking if they're married, and take it from there.

Its real simple - break the rules with no consequences. Usually the crimes you commit are small - but the trick is that they can add up. I hate it when I am the victim of these little trangressions a lot. There must be a way to punish these mini-evil-doers. After playing with this idea for a long time I've come up with a name for it -- the "Squirt-gun offense".

Broog: Alien Film Critic
Likes: Cuckoo
"Broog will not seek to interpret this film on your behalf, but he will come round to your feeble dwelling and sow your fields with salt, stampede your tiny offspring, and wear your housepets as slippers if you do not avail yourself of the opportunity to see the movie."
Dislikes: Matrix Revolutions
"By the same point in “Revolutions”, Broog was designing a new annex to the Chamber of Oiled Hedgehogs for the special use of Andy and Larry when Broog is able to get his grasping organs on them.

The Secret Diary of Gollum : Day Thirty-One - "[Very] Dark in Mines of Moria. Bad for ogling. Have been following sounds of Legolas complaining loudly about state of his backpack and dank air of Moria being bad for his skin. Gandalf stuck gum in his hair while he wasn’t looking. Rather like Gandalf. Always has gum."
Ignore the fact that it's a LiveJournal link. It's Middle Earth slash-fiction. And it's funny. Really, really funny. [via Modern Life is Rubbish]
