[Warning: some links NSFW
] Callgirl and blogger Alexa DiCarlo had some questions raised about her authenticity dating back to 2008
, but her website RealPrincessDiaries.com (archive.org cache
) still attracted huge traffic and she was even named the #1 sex blogger of 2010
. A student at SFSU's master's degree program in sexuality studies
, she also volunteered her time providing sex education advice to teenagers online under the name Caitlain or Cathy. And she mentored newbie sex workers via e-mail, giving them pro tips and even sharing with them one of her top clients, Matt, whose identity and safety she vouched for.
But in true Kaycee Nicole
/ JT LeRoy
style, it now turns out there wasn't
any "Alexa", "Caitlain", or "Cathy". Outed by the anonymous blog Expose A Bro
, combined with the anonymous twitter account @ExposingAlexa
, the real story has emerged. Alexa was apparently a married middle-aged guy named Pat, not a student at SFSU, had no formal training from which to be sharing "advice" (or naked photos!) with those teenagers online, and he was the "client"
that "Alexa" had sent to her protégées to sleep with... [more inside]

The detention of protesters highlights Middle East governments' ambivalent attitudes
towards support for the Palestinians.
Here it is worth noting of course that Philip is not alone
in his arrest. Another blogger Diaa Eddin Gad
has also been arrested as have several people
attending a Muslim Brotherhood demonstration. A strong, collective message was sent last February when Egypt and Saudi Arabia introduced a pan-Arab regulatory framework
for satellite television stations. The document, titled "Principles for Organizing Satellite Radio and TV Broadcasting in the Arab Region," clearly targets independent and privately owned stations that have been airing criticism of Arab governments.
This has helped trigger a Revolution, Facebook-Style

Internet in Africa is more than just Nigerian spam. There are honest African bloggers
who fight corrupt government and police to go where mainstream journalists dare not. Compare their blogging experience with your own. Imagine the government calling you over the phone at night and questioning about a particular post you just wrote.

"I'm dead. That sucks, at least for me and my family and friends. But all the tears in the world aren't going to bring me back, so I would prefer that people remember the good things about me rather than mourning my loss. (If it turns out a specific number of tears will, in fact, bring me back to life, then by all means, break out the onions.)" Blogger Andrew Olmsted was killed in Iraq yesterday.

Blogger claims to hack National Zoo panda name vote.
The National Zoo has opened its poll
on the name for the new baby panda. Readers of DCist, Wonkette, and other Washington blogs quickly developed the nickname "Butterstick" for the infant panda, based on the oft-quoted description of the panda's birth weight. "Butterstick" was of course not among the name choices on the Zoo's website. So bloggers went ahead and altered the voting form, allowing you to select that name.

Blogs are a phenomenon. Technorati, a blog search engine, tracks 6,406,667 blogs. Two years ago, it tracked 100,000. About 27% of adults now read blogs, up from 2% in 2003.
But really they're nothing new, says Kevin Maney in USA Today
