Amit Gupta needs a bone marrow transplant, and to increase chances of finding a match, Seth Godin offered a $10k bounty to whoever donated to his friend. There was only one problem. The offer was illegal. The National Organ Transplant Act of 1984 made it "felony punishable by up to five years in prison" to offer financial incentive for bone marrow donation.
