Awful Library Books
Volumes that are so
outdated
or so
outmoded
that they no longer belong in a public library.
Your grandfather's
Computer Science
.
Your grandfather's
Rocket Science
.
Your grandmother's
Feminism
.
Your great-grandmother's Pre-Feminism.
(And your great-grandfather's.)
Your grandparents' parents!
World Powers
that no longer exist!
Old predictions that didn't happen!
Bios of people when they were famous for something else!
Roller Disco!
Books considered crackpot when they were new!
Stuff even the Politically Incorrect
would think are Just Plain Wrong!
And more!
Are any of these books hiding in YOUR library? (If so, mail them to me.)

It's time again for the greatest literary competition this side of Bulwer-Lytton:
The Bookseller/Diagram Prize for the Oddest Book Title
(
previously
), and YOU can vote
here
for your favorite from 'the shortlist':
I Was Tortured By the Pygmy Love Queen
(scroll down to see the author's blog)
How to Write a How to Write Book
(
other books
by the author, mostly unavailable)
Are Women Human? And Other International Dialogues
(written by a woman)
Cheese Problems Solved
(ONLY £135.00)
If You Want Closure in Your Relationship, Start With Your Legs
(with extra points for the author's name: Big Boom)
and
People who Mattered in Southend and Beyond: From King Canute to Dr Feelgood
(this might be declared ineligible since the publisher's cover picture shows a shortened title)

The Bookseller/Diagram Prize
is a much sillier award than its name suggests. It is presented annually to the "Oddest Book Title of the Year". Past winners include (partial titles)
"People Who Don't Know They're Dead"
,
"Bombproof Your Horse"
,
"The Big Book of Lesbian Horse Stories"
, and
"Living with Crazy Buttocks"
(a must-read for MetaFilter moderators). All past winners
here
. TheBookseller.com is currently polling readers for their favorites from this year's long-winded shortlist
at the bottom of its frontpage
. Current leader: "Tattooed Mountain Women and Spoon Boxes of Daghestan" (not available on Amazon!), followed by
"The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification"
,
"How Green Were the Nazis"
and the obviously controversial
"Better Never To Have Been: The Harm of Coming Into Existence"
.
Remember, books purchased through these Amazon links benefit MetaFilter, not me.
